Y'see, under Alaskan Law the Corrections Commissioner would move up and fill the Lieutenant Governor's spot (the governor gets to pick the "designated successors" for the executive branch). But the person holding that job doesn't want the promotion.

So Palin has designated the Commissioner of Military and Veterans Affairs to move into the Lt. Governor's office when the current one takes over her job. But, any change in "designated successor" requires a confirmation vote by the state legislature - preferably before the transition process begins.

The state legislature is currently in recess. It would cost about $200,000 to convene a special session for the purposes of confirmation.

Unfortunately, my sister's brother and sister in law spout the same sort of bullshit on a daily basis. Except they've also become convinced that all the food in America is contaminated because it's imported from China. So basically, they're existing on nothing but home-grown vegetables and massive doses of vitamins. Nan says they look like death warmed over and hung out to dry, but they refuse to go out to eat with her and her husband (because their favorite local restaurant is run by-gasp! a family from Iraq), or even come over to their house to eat, because Nan still shops at the local grocery stores.

Meanwhile, they luuurv Governor Terminator, despite the fact he's run the entire state into the ground.
