| Sarah Palin resigns as gov. Surprised this wasn't posted before. It seems that Sarah Palin is resigning as Governor of Alaska effective July 26. But nobody really knows why. Rumor has it she might be doing it to run for top job in 2012. Which is pretty stupid, considering how she was treated in 2008. I've really got nothing against the woman, but I'm not a fan, either. Just seems something is going on that nobody is willing to talk about. | |

| Maybe we'll finally get a break from the endless choruses of "she could be a farmer in those clothes." | |

| Maybe she's been hiking in the Appalachian mountains. Seems to be popular these days.
I'm seeing stuff about an embezzlement scandal involving construction done in Wasilia, for which there could be a federal indictment. I don't know how credible any of those sources are, though.

| Was that the thing with her brother-in-law or was that something else? Wait, that was about State Troopers, wasn't it? Whatever it, nobody seems to be saying for sure. But I doubt she has a chance if she tries to run in 2012. She can't be that stupid. Can she? | |

| The brother-in-law/state trooper thing was a separate incident. There's some info here. Again, nothing's been confirmed, but if not this, there's something else going on. Just quitting midway through your first term as governor strikes me as a remarkably stupid move for someone aiming to be president. If she'd wanted to focus on a presidential run, she wouldn't even have had to wait that long; her term would have ended next year. | |

As a conservative, I agree. This IS good news. Of course, her running for President would be the worst thing to happen to the party since Lincoln was shot, so I can only hope it was to flee whatever new scandal has enveloped her. or to do a comedy show: Palin~s Ultra-Konservative Exposition. or care for her kid/grandkid as long as you don't run for President on the conservative ticket, you can do whatever legal thing you want, ma'am!

| Does anybody know why she did this? Because resigning instead of not running for re-election means she's most likely in some deep shit. And it has to be pretty deep since she managed to survive all the stuff during the election. Has anybody seen Levi lately? Last thing from him there was some question about visitation. I mean, Bill Clinton was supossed to have killed a lot of people when he was govenor. We can't be sure that Sarah Palin didn't kill somebody, too. | |

I'm with you--this is Antidotes material. I hate the Newsgasm this has caused (I bet Rich Lowry is masturbating himself stupid) but this is a good thing for Alaska.

| And already, the hard-right Palin supporters are blaming the media, ACORN, the Obama administration, and DFH bloggers (not necessarily in that order) for destroying "a good woman's" political career.
It's like they're completely detached from reality.
The only reason you hold a last-minute press conference in the late afternoon (Eastern time) on the Friday before a holiday weekend is if you want to bury the story. That 18-minute, babbling, stream-of-consciousness "speech" was not something that comes from someone who was prepared - it comes from someone who is desparate and acting on impulse.
She isn't playing some 12-dimensional game of chess while the rest of us are playing checkers. There's a big shoe that's about to drop and kick her squarely in the can.

I like her. She WILL get enough support. If you haven't noticed, she is actually rather popular among Conservatives. McCain stood no chance against Obama. I thought she actually HELPED McCain get more votes. Yes, I realize I am going to get drawn and quartered for this... :headshot:

:headshot: It's my understanding that she turned off a lot of moderates and republicans and her bid for VP brought a lot of negative attention to her party. It's also my understanding that only the far, far right likes her. I found her petty, annoying and unlikeable as a "hockey mom", female and a politician. Yes, but you can't win with Conservatives alone. And Governor Palin is repellent to independents and moderate Republicans - polling data bears this out. McCain's numbers among moderates and independents dropped after she was placed on the ticket and her favorables dropped 10-15 points within the first 3 weeks of her nomination, which is not a good sign.

| Governor up and quits in the middle of her term with a hasty press conference on the Friday before a holiday weekend. Gives a rambling speech, sounds like she's about 10-15 seconds from coming completely unspooled on national TV, and really never actually gets to a reason why she's resigning.
Of course people are going to speculate - the only reasons anyone would resign in this manner are that they're about to be indicted, they got diagnosed with a horrible disease, or they've been offered an immediate promotion to another job.

Seems to be a pattern with her. I mean, she attended four colleges in five years, she just can't stick around places.
