Knowing how the industry works here, I honestly don't think they got paid enough.

You know, having read a few things in English & translated into German (or the reverse), there is a small, but non-zero, chance that the book will actually be better once it hits your country.

You mean like how Twilight was actually far more readable in Hebrew than in English? Quite possibly. I saw a very small excerpt from the translated 50 Shades and I was shocked because that excerpt dealt with BDSM terms and they were translated perfectly. Someone did more research then the original author, there!

Are we going for our usual time? I can definitely make it this week. ^_^

Next week, not so much, unless the schedule changes again between now and Sunday.

Fifty Shades of Grey - Page 11 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Fifty Shades of Grey   Fifty Shades of Grey - Page 11 EmptySat Sep 08, 2012 11:06 pm

First off, I'd like to officially state my joining the website with this, my first post. My boyfriend and I tend to go to this website religiously for horrible fanfiction to review and boy, are there some goldmines here.

Second, ah, Fifty Shades of I'M DROWNING IN IT! Seriously, where do I even begin with this story that hasn't already been said here? The plot's horrible, the characters are downright stupid and it just drips, drips with the Twilight fanfiction that it began as.

Christian = Edward
Ana = Bella
Jose = Jacob

The list goes on and on. Personally, I love reading stuff like this, both of us do. Just to have so many 'WTF IS THIS?!' moments and hesitantly continue to the end. Fifty Shades has everything we love to hate. The review posted at the start of this thread is pretty much what we tend to do. I even download all three of the atrocities to merely find out what everyone was talking about.

We couldn't get beyond the first sentence without getting utterly pissed off. It takes a lot to do that to us, and the author does it without even trying. And seeing how long it was didn't help, either. It was only the first chapter and I felt like every word was sapping all the strength we had to continue.

The fact is, the story is rape. Plain and simple. There's barely any consent except for what she thinks she sort of wants from him, there's punishment in practically every sex scene and there's mentions of how many times he's done this before and she just accepts it. This has to just be the author's wet dream put to writing. I'm convinced. Otherwise, no one, NO ONE, in this world and justice system we live in, can get away with it.

In short, fanfiction like this should never be published, should never be publicly sold and should NEVER SELL THIS MUCH. More paperback grossing than Harry Potter? Are you serious?!

Yay! First, I would like to welcome you to the WGW boards. Smile Second, yes, this is a truly horrible book. It makes me angry every time I read it, and it's nearly killed me once! Trufax! The last reading I almost choked. Heh.

Seriously, those of you participating in the WGW audio performance of the book are braver souls than I am...I can't even glance at Grey's cover without experiencing a Grand Canyon-sized case of nausea(and this is coming from someone who cheerfully sat through Full Metal Jacket without so much as flinching).

I can't go into local bookstores anymore. The translated version of 50 Shades was released last week with loud fanfare and these wastes of papers are on open display everywhere. I can't look at a copy of that book without grimacing, let alone a pile of 20 copies.

The worst thing is, I heard that the books in the stores are actually the third print, since the first and second sold out on Internet presales. And that's without counting how many dumb human beings downloaded their to their Kindles over the weekend. There are a lot of those too.

I'm really embarrassed.

Oh man you were, my cat got offended because I was laughing so hard.

Edit: I think the thing that pisses me off the most about this book is because I'm older then the main female, have never been kissed, never dated, and I a) don't act like I'm just finding out what sex is b) now have to keep hearing people going on how NO 21 year woman is a virgin unless for religion. I'm only on chapter ten, but have added my own shot to the drinking game. Every single time you say "that's a good way to get kicked in the face" Fifty Shades of Grey - Page 11 294254

I'm also scarred for life about how much the book seems to think looking or acting childish is teh sehx.
