Ahaha! Good to know I'm not the only one doing livereadings of this shit over Skype. My group's gotten through the third chapter so far. We can only do one chapter at a time because the fuckery is so dense and my voice starts giving out near the end, but it's still great fun.

Also, I have PDF files of the entire trilogy if anyone's interested in using them for *ahem* research purposes.

I want to sit in on these readings.

They sound like a blast, and one hell of a good time.

- each time her subconscious / inner goddess is anthropomorphisized.
- each time Grey does something w/o obvious ulterior motives
- each time Ana is dismissive toward Kate
- each time there is a lesbian overtone between Kate/Ana, the only people who have ANY chemistry
- each time there is an inappropriate British-ism (we call them a fucking tank top in the US, not a singlet. A singlet is this)
- each time there is a Batman reference
- each time there is child imagery re: Ana
- BDSM references outside of nookie scenes


HARDCORE RULES (pick one or risk death):
- each time she flushes
- each time someone scowls
- each time someone murmurs
- each time it mentions his ~beautimous funk~

What I wonder is, why is this so popular if pretty much everyone agrees it's terrible? Twilight had its ardent supporters, but I'm not seeing that with this. It seems to be a trend that the worse something is, the more attention it gets (e.g. "Friday"). Meanwhile, genuinely talented authors get their stories rejected by publishing houses!

I was trying to avoid this, but I suppose I'll at least have to read the snark.

EDIT: Okay, now I'm partly through it, and I'm honestly trying to figure out whether I could have written something better than this. And I'm not the best writer, but I still think I could have. I actually wrote a fanfic about a similar situation, and I really tried to emphasize that the dominant partner's abusive tendencies were neither okay nor romantic.

For some extra fun read the Heroine (HA!) as totally panicked all the time, makes it so much more phone.

Who all is available on Thursday? How about Friday? Saturday? For myself, I'm available on all those days, and could start any time after 5pm central on Thursday, and at any time Friday or Saturday.
