| Proof that nothing is private on facebook and you should never piss off your parents. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] | |

| A slight overreaction, a waste of a laptop, and a waste of ammo. This father is clearly a goddamn inbred retard. | |

| I don't know, I thought it was pretty damned funny. Then again, I'm an American Southerner, and to me, shooting things is funny. | |

| I'm never really impressed with parents doing these grandiose, stunt punishments. They always seem kind of silly and frivolous to me. His daughter seems like your typical over privileged, upper middle class teenager, and he seems like your typical redneck father. *shrug*
I feel for the guy, though. I like to imagine we're all too poh' and will remain too poh' for Rhiannon to end up as whiny and privileged as this guys daughter.
...
I'm hoping for too much, aren't I?

| lol yeah like nobody here ever whined about their parents and having to do housework
and never got pocket money for doing housework
but seriously the dad is overreacting majorly. The last time she did something so heinous as complain about her parents, she was grounded for three months. Don't worry Dad, as soon as she's out of the house she won't bother coming back. Oh wait, you'll probably kick her out in a year because you lived on your own aged fifteen and were a volunteer fireman and worked two jobs while going to college during high school, which is all true and not even slightly made up.
Also, in a fantastic and ironical twist, Dad is now catching heat from all kinds of whackjobs because of the stupid shit he put on the internet.

| Is it funny? Yeah, somewhat.
Did he overreact? Hell, yes.
Some kids get paid for chores. Some don't. Fine. I think it depends on the amount of time invested in chores and Hannah mentioned some things her father did not - gardening, work in the clinic, and implied to be cleaning the floors to a greater extent than her father believes she does.
The mature solution for that problem would have been a family discussion about chores and whether they should be paid or not.
The daughter is 15? In IL (my home state), you can't work at the age of 15 without a work permit and it really limits your working hours. And the state really wants you to have an intent-to-hire form from an employer. From what I can tell in Google, North Carolina is the same.
How many employers are going to want to hire a 14 or 15 year old kid who can barely work part time 9 months of the year? Older teens sometimes have options to get the work hour restrictions waived but not 14-15 year-olds.
I agree she is being disrespectful toward the woman helping clean house.
I also wonder - she wanted the programs, he says, to have the laptop ready for school. So...if she does her schoolwork on that computer...that doesn't seem to bode well.
Also? If your kid isn't working right now - whether because she won't or can't - it's a damned waste of money to shoot the laptop. For god's sakes, you could strip it of the personal info, and sell it on eBay or something if you want to punish her and get your money back for the expensive programs installed. That would still be overboard but it'd be more reasonable. Now, when she does work, she's going to be in debt to you for the program and the bullets and if she ever pays for them, you'll hear more whining and resentment because she'll be turning the paychecks over to you instead of buying what she wants/needs herself as you told her to do.
The whole damned mess seems like it could have been handled better if father and daughter had been more mature. A LOT more mature.

Sooo... did he even buy her that laptop? - Quote :
- Jordan, you see, became frustrated when he discovered his daughter Hannah (we're guessing at the spelling of her name) had posted a rather whiny message about her parents and her domestic responsibilities on her Facebook wall. She thought, Jordan said, that mom and he were blocked from seeing it.
Psst, Hannah. Dad works in IT. He seems to be able to circumvent those little privacy settings on Facebook with a mere flick of his gun-toting wrist. Whataminute. What? He hacked her account to read her commentary? The fuck? Duuude, I do not care how over-privileged this girl is, that is fucked the fuck up.

| The article seems curiously unworried about the ease with which Facebook's privacy measures can be circumvented. Maybe she had a really obvious password or didn't set things up as she thought, but the 'Psst, Hannah' line makes it clear that they're happy to present it as hacking. - Sparrow wrote:

Assuming he'd even agree to talk about it, or even talk about anything. He talks about her 'cute little rebellion', doesn't even remember what he grounded her for months over, doesn't have a positive thing to say about her for the whole time he's sitting in the chair talking, and gives her orders even though he's not planning for her to see the video. He says that her only responsibilities are getting up on time and getting to school on time, after going through the list of chores on the wall. The closest he comes to saying anything remotely non-jerkish while he's in the chair is acknowledging that she has to keep her bedroom door locked on the weekends so her brother doesn't come in and wake her at 6 in the morning. If I were in her position and didn't have any savings or other support, I'd think about getting a job just to have some backup when I got the hell out of there. PS. What's the betting that if she had gotten a job before this, he'd be demanding part of it as rent?

| I'm sorry, but if my father began firing a gun repeatedly in front of me to make a point, I'd be scared out of my fucking mind. This guy is terrorizing his child for no fucking reason and it's disturbing that anyone's validating it. Jesus Christ. What a piece of shit. | |

He actually logged on in the family dog's facebook account to look at her posts, and then threw this subsequent hissifit when he saw her DARING to complain about chores as a 15 year-old. It really bothers me that people this cartoonishly juvenile are allowed parent children without state supervision, much less own guns.

| ^ Yeeeeah, ok, now I am kind of sick to my stomach. I mean, not because this guy is a shit parent, those are a dime a dozen and it could be far worse, but the sheer number of people giving this guy ass-pats for it is... Urgh. - Quote :

I could be wrong here but I am pretty sure guessing at an easy password to get into something you are not supposed to get into is still technically hacking. Which I guess is not what he did, but still. I do not think that the ease of violating your daughter's privacy makes it a less terrible thing to do.

| They might both be hacking, but the difference is where the weak link in the chain is. With manual password-guessing, it's with the password itself. With computer-aided password-guessing, it's with Facebook's security. The way the article is written, they're using the latter option to make a joke about how a Facebook user's attempts to keep their writing private are nothing in the face of a person who-- wait for it-- works in IT. Hey, maybe he works for IT. This guy would fit right in in Derry. | |
