Why, Gody, Why did this game end this way?

Borderlands.

At the start of the game, a part of your screen is hijacked to show some sort of pale woman who promises to basically be your Edward Cullen/Navi (I'll watch over you and get you to the vault, where you can find cool shit.), she basically starts to ramp up the creepy factor towards the end of the game ("I'm Always watching you.")

Then there is the leader of the Crimson Lance: a ruthless woman hired by the owners of the planet as a sort of mercenary police force. Early in the game, she kinda acts like a dick by

You follow the second woman into an area populated by an enemy that has no previous analogue.
Basically my strategy previously was to headshot everything I could with a sniper rifle and use my throwing bird to set enemies abubbling in acid, then close to scatter/shotgun or Revolver range and exterminate whatever was left. Now for the final level we have

Also, the "guardian angel" begins pestering you more and more about getting your ass to the vault.
Finally, you reach the vault, where the leader of the Crimson Lance unites the 3 pieces of the key (which you had needed to wonder the world to collect), and the portal to the gate opens.

Well, this is precious. You know, for weeks I've been wishing this place was a vicious as the old GAFF, and that we had the same level of casual smack-talking we all used to enjoy. Now the one time we get back to the old habit of tearing apart the newbs, you guys seem to be doing it entirely at random.

It's like you all used to be these bitchy-ass insult comics of the Internet, and now you're coming off as feeble radioactive basement-dwellers calling someone teh ghey 'cause he doesn't like the same games as you. This place is somehow managing to be full of complete bitches while still insanely tolerant of certain douchebags, and a certain kind of noobery.

The guy is talking the same way we all used to. He's actually being pretty funny. This is exactly the kind of talk I went to GAFF for - the your mum jokes with an actual sense of humour (and irony, guys, grant a guy some self-awareness). Gah, no wonder I hardly post here any more.

And I'm sure you read every single word of something by Tuxedo Mark? If I'm playing a game, and the cutscenes are boring enough for me to skip them the first time around, that's a legitimate complaint about the game. Just like 'That book was so bad I couldn't be arsed to keep reading it' is a legitimate opinion.

The point isn't that anyone in particular is unfunny, it's that everybody just doesn't seem to be trying as much as they used to. Every single thread used to be entertaining to read, even if I had no idea who these 'Inuyasha' or whatever people were. Now, it just seems to be people posting about stuff they don't like, without any attempt to make their posts entertaining or even readable beyond basic adherance to whatever draconian rules of grammar/formality the people with the highest post counts decide is applicable.

I also missed the bit where this was about personal attacks. But while we're on it, I'm pretty sure the last person I heard who thought dressing up at Halloween was 'sad' was about 16.

I may have digressed a little. But then, I actually know Jossarian. I like to think I would wade in when people scare off any noob, but naturally this is going to get my attention a little more. I think attitude to noobs is a big part of board quality, and what I was seeing here was some real attitude, directed at noobs.
