Man Busted for Slapping Stranger's Crying Child

I'm sure many of us have occasionally been tempted to do this, but this gentlemen took it a step too far.

Man Busted for Slapping Crying Child

at a Walmart in Stone Mountain when he crossed paths with Sonya
Matthews and her two-year-old daughter Paige. The child was crying,
which apparently greatly perturbed Matthews. "If you don't shut that
baby up I will shut her up for you," Stephens warned Matthews,
according to a Gwinnett County Police Department report.
Moments later, Stephens acted on his threat, slapping Paige "across the
face approximately four or five times." Though the child "started
crying and screaming" after being struck, Stephens told Matthews, "See,
I told you I would shut her up." After police were summoned, Stephens
told a cop that the child was crying "and he just slapped her,"
according to the report. Stephens was arrested for felony cruelty to children
and booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center, where he is being
held without bond. Paige sustained "slight redness to the face," but
was otherwise unharmed.

Note the picture at the bottom of the page. He looks like the kind of person who'd slap a total stranger's kid, and likely anyone else who got too close to him.

Does cf_hardcore still exist? I'd love to see their take on this!

Stephens deserves to go to jail for a LOOOOONG time.

Well, then I guess it's ok to punch some asshole in the face when said asshole slaps a child. After all, I was just shutting him up. There's nothing wrong with that.

Actually, the few asshats who did post positively about it on cf_hardcore were slapped down hard by the rest of us (and at least one got banhammered.) Most of us reacted the same way Rabid Badger did.

I read another article that another customer prevented the scumbag from leaving - childfree or not, believe me, I'd have tackled any bastard to the ground who did that to a strange child in a store...hell, even if it was his own child! There's no excuse. (Though I'm curious as hell to see what kind of defense his lawyer comes up with - maybe he'll hire the same lawyer who defended that Toogood woman who beat the snot out of her own daughter in a parking lot and claimed "she provoked it.")

The article doesn't say, but it really shouldn't make any difference. Even if she was acting bratty, it was up to her mother to discipline her, not some stranger who just happened to be walking by.

Also, slapping a small child who's crying is the worst way possible to try and get them to stop. Maybe one kid in 20 will be shocked enough to actually stop-the rest will just cry harder because now they DO hurt.

My first thought was that if you're that annoyed by the sound of crying children, Wal-Mart is NOT the place to go.

It's just as you say. It doesn't matter how annoying a kid is, it's just not some strangers business to teach manners/discipline them.

Sometimes I do wish that mothers would just tape their kids' mouths, but I hold my ideas to myself. And yes, I hate kids and babies are the worst, which of course doesn't mean that other people should be like me.

However, strangers do have the right to tell said parents to do something about it.

If your kid is bored and becomes a screaming brat you should probably DISCIPLINE YOUR CHILD OR LEAVE THE FUCKING LIBRARY.
