Something Weird Happened to Me Today

I saw my childhood hero today. She is to me what Mr. Rogers was to kids my age in the US. Only younger and prettier, I suppose? I kind of wanted to be her when I was a kid, is the thing. When I met her face to face as a 4-year-old I nearly pissed my pants from excitement.

And now it's twenty years later and I feel really awkward because I'm still excited when I see her. And while she looks almost exactly the same as she did two decades ago (no plastic surgeries, just amazing genes and good organic hair dye), I gained more than 50 centimeters to my height and god knows how many kilograms to my weight. I'm 20 centimeters taller than my childhood hero. I remember when we met when I was 4 she needed to bend over to come face to face with me.

I feel so old. I wonder if she feels old at all. I'm willing to bet that some of the parents who take their little kids to her shows were fans of hers when they were that age. God this is awkward.

I went to the doctor today and was stopped in the parking lot by some pro-life demonstrators who tried to convince me not to go in, and then assured me that I would regret doing so and would suffer shame and remorse.

I went in, I saw the doctor, I came out--and I feel not the slightest bit of shame, regret, or remorse at getting a clean bill of health from my dermatologist.

Unless it was one of those medical complexes with several different specialists practicing under one roof, someone pulled up the wrong directions from Mapquest.

He's the first of his family to graduate from community college!
All the rest of them graduated from regular college.

At this very moment my child is sleepily patting my breast.

Yesterday I got my full arm cast cut down to a half arm, and the amount of muscle I've lost is hilarious. It's like someone replaced my arm with a chicken dinner.

My friend got me crazy straw glasses and she'll be sending them to me for my birthday in three months.

Not sure if best gift ever or not.

The last couple of days, I've gotten ann e-mail from my LJ account concerning a story that I wrote, oh, probably a good eight years or more ago in the Trigun fandom. It's been long enough that I'd forgotten I'd written it, but it was posted to a Trigun slash community and got, like, one reply at the time. It's basically a 100 word drabble with Vash and Wolfwood talking about Wolfwood growing up in an orphanage, and how what he really wanted was a real gun. If you know anything about the manga, Wolfwood basically grew up to be a Priest/Assassin, so him wanting that sort of thing wouldn't have been that unusual.

The last two days, I've gotten two e-mails about this story linked to videos. The problem is, the videos are in Spanish, and my Spanish is fairly rusty, but I think they have to do with the shooting in Colorado and gun violence in general. I can only assume that whoever these people are, they've decided that me writing this story means I'm in favor of randomly killing people.

This confuses the hell out of me, since I've never owned a gun, never shot a gun, and am, in fact, pretty well terrified of guns. Also, whoever's sending me the e-mails are assuming I hold the same view on life, death, guns and using them a problem solver as a fictional character in a long-finished manga..

People are very very odd. Also, the names are so obviously fake and made up, it's obvious they're just sent by someone with a weird agenda (I tried looking both of them up on LJ and youtube, and the names they're using aren't real names.

Specifically, what did the e-mails say other than linking the videos? The videos have absolutely nothing to do with your fic, and it sounds like spam.

Yeah, I've gotten one of those two. It's just someone trying to up their view count on Youtube, I think.

Better get your computer tested for viruses. There's some spammers going around on LJ, commenting on various posts with random youtube links that apparently contain very nasty viruses.

They didn't say anything, Weird. Just had the URL.

Edhllenen-I figured that might be it, considering that I happened to read the comments to the one I posted, and most of the people who'd watched it seemed to have no idea what it was supposed to mean.

I f I get any more, I'll just delete them (I already did that with the second one)

They are kind of hypnotic, aren't they?

Better be careful, j-pop digs its claws into your brain and never lets go. Even looking at a picture or gif for too long can be dangerous.

I always adblocked them to be on the safe side.
