You know you're in trouble when you make Tom Cruise look like a bastion of sanity. Especially during what's supposed to be your big comeback to acting.

Does Mel Gibson have any concept of the term "career suicide"? Because he's skirting it at the very least.

I like how every time a celebrity in the twilight years of their career does something dumb, people start yapping about "career suicide!"

Just because you're in the twilight of your career doesn't mean you should rush it along. And that's exactly what Mel's doing with these bigoted cracks of his; at the rate he's going it's only a matter of time before he turns into "where are they now?" material.

"Where are they now?" types are usually flash in the pan sorts. Short-lived high profile careers that either explode or suddenly fizzle out, sometimes from genuine career suicides.

Mel Gibson has had a long and successful career that has only started to burn out in recent years. I mean, the last big thing he did movie-wise was The Passion of the Christ, and to a less widely-received or publicized degree, Apocalypto. He's bipolar, 54 years old, has a long history of alcohol abuse, and is still extremely rich.

This isn't career suicide, this early stage career death of natural Hollywood causes.

It's not dead, just slowed down. He has that upcoming The Beaver with Jodie Foster (who also directed). I wonder what she and the studio are thinking now.

I just looked that up, and damn, does it look lame-ass.

I always liked Mel's movies, particularly the ones he directed (say what else you will about it, but he's a good director). Dunno how I'll take watching them after this. Plenty of other Hollywood stars were/are batshit insane and/or unpleasant-sounding people in real life.

Oh, he apparently also hit Oksana, too. Dunno if that was in the other thing I linked to.
