Found out today that my brother's financial aid didn't go through and his measly dominos pizza job won't give him hours, and so he's living on campus.

That's fancy talk for he's homeless.

Of course I can't really do anything to alter his views and what he wishes to do, but homelessness really takes its toll on on a person and I know he's gotta fail to see what it's like and how much it sucks ("But I practically live on campus anyway!" is not a good mantra), but I have this sick feeling he's gonna end up in prison because living in your car and doing drugs is sure gonna look like a hardworking college student to the police

So at the very least I offered that he could come up to my place and find a job, and put off the school thing until he saved up enough money, but he took personal offense to it

it's like he's acting like it's a great adventure and yeah sure I do admire his attitude and determination but he has no idea what's in store for him in this cycle of poverty and it's more serious than not graduating school on time

he already blew it by partying too much

but yeah, I'm trying not to get crazy involved or to tell his mom, just because, but at the same time, it's kind of sad seeing someone you care about being homeless

and the idiot just keeps buying pot

but yeah I know it's bad to be crazy involved but oh my fucking god, I just want to slap him upside the face and let him crash in my apartment (as bad as that may seem in the long run)

plus I have no idea if he's just some moocher and my gf's safety is far more important than his, and I do not wish him to bring whatever weird shit he may be doing into our home. got a chip in my windshield today

Walked in on my parents having sex a while ago( about a week or two.). Funny thing is, the door was locked but I pulled down the handle and it opened so apparently it wasn't locked very good. Luckily I didn't see much aside from my mom; which is pretty normal. Too far away for me to tell what they doing too, it was all blurry thank god. Still...my brain keeps going back to it. Like what were they doing and stuff? Which I guess is normal but BLERHGFH.

Feeling depressed because I'm 25 and only been on one date in my life, which circles into me feeling like a loser and then not wanting to talk to people or go out which means no meeting any people. Which leads me to feeling depressed about not being able to find someone to date (though I guess since I've found two creepy ass guys at my school that are tots willing to date me I shouldn't be complaining about that, hell I get told by people that I should give them a chance >< ).

Ow. No...I don't think so. Thankfully it's mostly blocked from my memory.

One of my students was killed in a car accident. The principal told me this morning.

The one person I was hoping would agree to be on my committee has said no. Outside his comfort zone--he's never worked on a dissertation committee before, so he wouldn't know what to do.

While I respect that, it now puts me right back to where I was: fucked. I'd like to say that my department puts the fun in dysfunctional, but we don't even have that going for us at the moment.

So while I appreciate the advice he did give me (which was very good and will likely save my bacon during the oral defense of the written exams on Wednesday), it still means I'm at a loss. I sincerely figured he'd agree, and I needed him specifically, since he's one of maybe two or three people in academia I can actually trust to play fair and not turn into a total shit at the worst possible time.

(And yes, I know that this, in the grand scheme of things, isn't that bad, but it does put up another roadblock in a process that feels increasingly punitive. On to plan... I'm running out of letters at this point.)
