My boss was playing "Friday" over the intercom yesterday. She stopped when one of the more emotionally fragile students started screaming.

Ironically enough, it was people screaming stuff like this that ensured this girl was capable of making a mark on our cultural gestalt in the first place.

Well, the singer in My Jeans can carry a tune better (or seems to, anyway), but the song is even dumber, and the video is worse. That said, though, I think I would have adored these songs roundabout sixth grade. Fortunately, Youtube didn't exist in 1988.

I found myself wondering, yesterday, about something.

Could it be considered an unkindness for these girls' parents to allow them to put this shit on the internet? Look at all the shit they've gotten for this, the seriously harsh name-calling they've endured, people threatening them--all because they made some bad music.

I wonder, if I ever have kids, if there comes a time when they're all, "MOM CAN I PUT MY MUSIC VIDEO ON YOUTUBE" if I'd say no. Probably.

I feel kind of sorry for Rebecca Black. On one hand, if I was 13 I would have loved to have her life. On the other it's like, what do famous kids do? They definitely don't decide which seat to take or any of that other average kid stuff. Maybe her decision would depend on who's got the crack.

Idyllic typical 13 year old's life. Prolly not so idyllic anymore if this is leveraged to get her famous.

Well the thing is, I don't know if we can consider "Friday" pop music, because, while the music is popular, it's popular in the internet-celebrity-Chris-Crocker fashion where it's like "hey guys let's all point and laugh".

At this point, she's more infamous than famous, and her 15 minutes will one day dry up.
