Or so it seems. Wikipedia describes the 13-year-old's single "Friday" as being for the teen pop genre, but she isn't welcome there. According to wall posts from my younger Facebook friends, Rebecca Black "can't sing" and "doesn't know what she's talking about." I would have to say they're right. Listen for yourselves. Is she the next Bieber, as some believe, or worse?
Her song "Prom Night" is quite possibly even worse.

She sounds like she has vocal range of about 3 notes. I'd heard the Friday song before--my boss loves it (my boss is in her 40s). The Prom Night song is really awful.

How did this girl convince anyone to let her record that epic pile of suck, let alone inflict it on the ears of the public?

She didn't have to convince anyone. That kind of stuff is what Ark Music Factory does. Mommy and Daddy pay a couple grand, and Ark will give the kid a song, produce (i.e., Auto-Tune the living daylights out of) it, film the video for it, and even hold a concert where the kid gets to be interviewed on the red carpet. [I'm not kidding; there's a video right at the top of their website.] That's their business.

They should ask for a refund.

another singer who people will complain is being pushed in everybody's faces
yet the people doing most of the pushing are the ones who complain in the first place

In this case, they're the ones doing all the pushing. Before last weekend, this was just sitting ignored on YouTube, and in the time since it's been discovered, none of the people posting it to every blog they could find did so because they thought it was good. This past week has been one huge variation on the "I think this milk has gone bad; you try it," phenomenon.

I only just heard about this song the other day after they were making fun of it on the news. "THURSDAY COMES BEFORE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY IS AFTER FRIDAY? MY GOD, I'M LEARNING SO MUCH!"
Her voice grates me so much. I never knew I could have the same reaction to a voice as I do nails on a chalkboard.
...I'd rather listen to I WHIP MY HAIR BACK AND FORTH than this.

It may be a parody but it still sounds terrible and it doesn't amuse.

I can't hate a song that has lyrics like "we so excited" and "kickin' in front seat, sitting in back seat". I just can't.

I'm sorry, but the whole "Which seat should I take?!' had be laughing uncontrollably.
And Doobie, the expressions of the guys in the car pretty much mirrored mine.

Someone on the Escapist forums suggested making "Friday" the new Rickroll.
God help us all if someone actually does that.

You know, lyrics-wise, that second song is absolutely indistinguishable from the real deal.
... Except for the fact that it hasn't been autotuned quite as much.

I think this official remix is even better. It mostly features Patrice "Pato!" Wilson, that rapper in the car, uttering bizarre phrases like "Ark music factory has educated you on the days of the week!" and "Gotta get fried eggs!" It's meant to be a joke, I'm sure, given he has no problem calling himself "Fat Usher" now and lampshades the terrible lyrics by saying shit like "Which seat should I take? Front seat or the back? I'm confused." but he talks about eggs so damn much that it's more confusing than it is funny.

A guy in one of my classes did a death metal parody video of Friday and it got over a million hits. O_o I'd never even heard of this person before yesterday.
