Iowa, somewhat to my surprise, has six groups, most of them related to the KKK and Aryan Nation. Might not seem that much until you realize we're a relatively small state, and while the black population has remained pretty much steady, the Hispanic population has increased dramatically over the last several years. I know in the town I live in, Hispanics now outnumber blacks as the major ethnic group.

Midwest racism is very casual. You seldom get cross-burnings or beatings. Mostly you just get the racist nuts bemoaning the fact that the Hispanics are going outnumber us in 10 years because they have so many children. Ignoring the fact that a good portion of people who belong to the KKK and Aryan Nation tend to be in the lower socio-economic stratus, and generally have more kids than your average middle-class couples.

At least it isn't Vancouver, B.C. Sure we have like-minded wackos up here but at least they're quieter about it

Twenty-nine, here. Nine are KKK (go figure since their HQ is here), plus 7 other white pride / neo-nazi fuckstain conglomerations. And Tony fucking Alamo. >_<

If it makes y'all feel better, Maryland has 17 and D.C. has twelve. Considering Maryland and D.C. are predominately not-white, mainly black, that kind of doesn't surprise me. D.C. is 50% black, and only 30% white, with the other 20% being mostly South Asian, Middle Eastern, and Hispanic. Maryland is only about 50% white.

So I'm really not surprised that there are so many damn racist groups going "OHNOES, those damn minorities have taken over!". No, seriously, I heard that exact thing once on a street corner in D.C. Gotta give it to the nation's capital, freedom of speech is pretty respected. What was also respected was the kiosk owner's freedom of speech to shout "Get off my corner! Off my corner skinhead! No one will buy from me with you here! Go get a job! Get a job white boy!"

It was pretty damn funny. The skinhead kept calling him a "towelhead" (The dude is a Sikh, and he has the best lunch truck in the city), but the Sikh really could not have given a damn. Just wanted him to go stand on the other corner and yell.

California has 68 hate groups, more than any other state. Of course, California also has the biggest population. This state also has lots and lots of minorities (especially Hispanic, but also black, various Asian groups, and dozens of Native Americans tribes). This state also has regions with large numbers of homosexuals, such as San Francisco, Hollywood, and Palm Springs. All of these things make the hate groups cringe in terror and run around making asses of themselves while the sane people look at them and go WTF?
