I always wondered what exactly I, personally, am supposed to do to make up for all this horrible shit that society does. Just being consciously aware of what privileges you have makes a pretty big difference, too.

You can start by knocking off the fucking whining about how these imaginary people are condemning you to hell for daring to be white. Then think about not throwing up your fucking hands like there's nothing you can do. Right now you don't give a flip what society does, you only care about your persecution complex.

No, I honestly want to know what to do. No one ever seems to answer that. What can an average person with no political power or money, do to change white privelege? Please help me out here; I honestly want to help but I have no idea how to go about it?

Either way, this is BS, and dangerous BS at that. Pretending otherwise fosters the mentality that certain groups can't be racist because they are the victims and allows pockets of society to develop where racist views go unchallenged.

Also, while white privilege definitely exists, so called "affirmative action" or "positive discrimination" doesn't actually tackle the problem, it simply moves it around. People do it because treating the symptoms is much easier than trying to cure the disease

The way to avoid discrimination is not to discriminate. If you want to eliminate discrimination then it should be punished where and whenever it is found, not treated as if it's OK in some circumstances and not others.

Sheba, here's an idea on what you can do: do what ZoZo just did. Educate people when you get the chance. Don't victimise yourself. Acknowledge that it exists and realise that if you're in this position right now, chances are that there'll be others just like you who also exist and might need the same advice you are getting right now. Learn from it and help others.

And most importantly: work at correcting the main problem itself. The only advice I can think of on that front is donation and volunteer work, though, as that's all I do. Somebody else here with more experience on the matter should be able to help more.

Affirmative action is awesome for reasons I don't have the time to go into right now. To make it simple, even if the playing field were totally equal, white folks have enormous societal advantages in the workplace due to the relative income levels of white families starting them out with higher income and prestige. Affirmative action can, in the long run, mitigate those advantages and make the workplace more fair.

Anyway, the President released a statement today. If people pass out fliers without college authorization, like the Nazi did, then the fliers will be taken down by security and destroyed. There was also some stuff about his sincere apologies in the delaying of his response, and within several weeks there will a "Task Force" implemented to deal with these kind of situations, should they arise again.

Basically, the issue is if the Nazi's right to Free Speech impedes Non-White students' right to study free from threat. I can't fucking believe that's an issue; overtly flaunting one's allegiance to a hate group is a threat. I think, at least.
