He's saying that a group of people purely because they have pigment in their skin should not be allowed the privilege of living in America. He's implicitly condoning genocide, destruction, and violent non-tolerance.

I've lived long enough to have discovered that certain people, for reasons known only to themselves, cannot function if they don't have someone to hate. Generally, it's somone who's another color, or lower on the social roster than they are, or speaks another language, or a combination of all three.

Despite their posturing, these people usually aren't very intelligent. They've been raised in households where racism (and sexism) are viewed as being good things that should be emulated. They've spent their entire lives listening to the adults around them talk about n****rs and other non-white people, and how they're all on welfare and should go back to the jungle where they came from. They ignore the fact that white men were not the original founders inhabitants of North America-the Native Americans were here long before we were; we just had more efficient methods of killing them off and stealing their land. They ignore the fact that a good majority of the black population were brought here against their will a slaves.

Underneath it all, they're frightened little children for whom anyone who isn't a pure white Christian is an evil creature plotting to rape their women and children and take over the country. Where anyone who isn't 100% straight's only intrested is seducing their sons and daughters into be 'perverts.' They thrive on fear and hatred, and they're very good at creating both. All they have to do is find white people who are scared that there's a black man (who's a foreigner and almost certainly a Muslim Socialist) running the White House. They long for the 'good old days' when black people knew their place and stayed there, and the only asians or hispanics you had to worry about lived in big cities and ran restaurants.

In short, they're terrified of anyone who isn't exactly like them. And since like attracts like, and there are a lot of crazy people running around out there just looking for a cause to latch onto, they love to visit colleges and high schools and other places where young people are still in the flux; still figuring out their place in the world, what they want to do with their life, etc. Because if you catch them when they're young and malleable (and disaffected about how the current situation in their country is), it's doesn't really take that much talk before what you're saying starts making sense. We didn't have all this trouble when there was still a white man in the White House. It was easy to find jobs before all those spics started coming here and taking them away from us (I, myself, am madder about American corporations that outsource jobs to other countries-these people probably don't even know we've lot more jobs to contractors overseas, where people are willing to work for lot less money and no benefits) that we would've lost if the entire population of Mexico City decided to jump the border).

The sad thing is, there isn't anything you can do about people like this guy (short of a Saul on the Road to Damascus moment, they're not going to change). All you can do is try to educate the young that what these people are spouting is pure, Grade A bullshit. Unfortunately, it's an uphill job, because in times of economic troubles, this sort of bullshit is very seductive, because it places the blame for what's happening on anyone but you. Look how little trouble Hitler had convincing the German people that the Jews and other foreigners were the cause of all their problems, and if they just got rid of them, everything would be fine?

I don't know how the press is in America with issues regarding immigration, but here it's another layer, as immigrants--usually Africans or Eastern Europeans these days are blamed for everything. Not got a job? Blame the Somalis. Economic crisis? Oh, those Poles! I read about Chancellor Merkle's 'proclamation', and wondered why it hadn't been posted to WGW news. This is a major world leader basically saying that they need to round up the Turks and Muslims who've immigrated to Germany and ship them home, because they're ruining the country. Not because they're taking jobs away from the German people or causing the crime rate to rise, but because they refuse to learn German and convert to Christianity. It was eerily reminiscent of the Governor of Arizona's rant about Hispanics, except her major complaints were how they were taking jobs away from Americans and causing the crime rate to rise.

Let me put it this way: When I picked up an FHM magazine* about protecting Obama that mentioned that what with the BNP's successes in gaining seats, while the UK had some soul-searching to do, racism is still rampant in the US. It then went on to detail neo-Nazi groups and the KKK. I literally laughed out loud when I read that: In the US, they're fringe groups that occasionally grab media attention. In the UK, they get elected to office. Which one has a "rampant" problem, now?

The problem, though, is that racism clouds the debate when discussing things like immigration policy and border protection. The US, for example, is in dire need of securing its borders. They're laughably porous. But at the same time we need to revamp immigration policy because currently the criteria seem to be "Are you rich?" and "If you're not rich, are you politically attractive?" That makes it a decades-long, painful and infuriating process for most people. There are some very realistic solutions for curbing illegal immigration while making it easier to legally immigrate, but it's lost in a sea of bumper sticker slogans.

Also, I can assure you that this douchenozzle in the article is in the clear minority in Washington. If it helps, most right-wingers consider western Washington to be little better than "Commiefornia." Like most fringe nutjobs, he'll get his 15 minutes and then everyone will move on to something else.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that there have been sociological studies done that show most hardcore racists (KKK members and Neo-Nazis) typically come from low positions on the social ladder themselves. Many of them are angry, young, and their families are poor. They feel that society has abandoned them, or betrayed them in some way, and they use racism as their outlet.

I think you are right about that, but she did say "or". It is not necessarily racists who hate on the lower classes, lots of people do. Of course, there is a great deal of propaganda coming from the ultra-rich to keep it that way; if the lower and middle classes keep fighting among themselves the rich can keep on being rich. In Washington right now there is an initiative for an income tax. We currently have no state income tax and our sales tax is swiftly nearing 10%. The proposed income tax will reduce other forms of taxation and provide much needed money to our incredibly bankrupt government. This tax only applies to people who make more than 200,000 a year (or couple making more than 400,000). TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR. If everyone in the state who made less than that --and would be basically getting free money from this initiative in the form of less taxes as well as getting better social services (I think the surplus is supposed to go to health and education specifically)-- voted for this it would win no probs. Very few people make that kind of money. But the ads are pressing that once this is in place more and more income will be taxed! Oh noes! Maybe the people who make 100,000 a year will have to pitch in a couple hundred! What next?! The people who make 50,000!? The horror! So, the middle classes who make 50-70 g a year are being told to vote against it because THEY ARE NEXT!

And really, fuck those poor people. Do you want to possibly in the future pay an income tax and help float those freeloaders? They should have to pay their taxes in the form of sales tax on their TP and shampoo like the rest of us, right? And we are ALREADY paying income pax to the federal government. If I (or you) were to confront this man and tell him exactly where he may stick it, I highly doubt jail time would be involved. Oddly enough, since you'd assume the highest number of hate groups would be in the deep south, Texas has the largest number, with 66. Of course, they can't track every hate group-these are just the ones who are proud enough about who they are to actually list themselves online where people can find them. I imagine there are hundreds more who keep themselves well hidden.

I still don't think that really fits, since racism is often a defensive stance perpetuated by people who perceive a threat from a homogenous group of outsiders. Unless we're working from different definitions of "privilege" here, I really think that racism is more of a symptom of the so-called "victim mentality."
