| Alright! Finally a fandom I can get behind! I was curious to see if there was an explosion of "OMG I LOVE RORSCHACH!" and Ror/OC pairings and whatnot in the Watchmen fandom, I started hunting around for Watchmen fics. Most of what I saw were Rorschach/OC pairings (haha, I was right!) and surprisingly Nite Owl/Rorschach pairings...though I did find a very amusing one about the first Silk Spectre fucking the Comedian up the ass, but I'm not quite sure it was "god awful" because I did laugh. So, although I'm positive there will be a ton of them to choose from, I wanted to break the ice first in this fandom on here. At least, I don't think we've found a horrible Watchmen fic to skewer. Musical Melody The summary says it all, I think: - Quote :
- Melody is a girl no one respects until one day her mom introduses her to Laurie the daughter of Sally J. Laurie understands Melody and wants her to become a superhero like her Mother . Laurie introduces her to the Watchmen . Is Melody falling for Rorshach
Yeah. So, we start out in journal style (as we're gonna see a LOT of that too in this fandom) with Melody complaining about how much of a freak she is. - Quote :
- October 5th, 1978
Nobody understands me anymore. To them im just a freak nothing more . Dear, it was the seventies. Everyone was a freak. Just sayin'.
- Quote :
- " Melody, You remember when i used to tell you stories about when i was a superhero?" she asked all exsited like she was talking to an 8 year old me.
That would explain the bad typing... - Quote :
- My mother was a cancer passiont and lived with me so i could take care of her.
She was a cancer what? - Quote :
- " Well the thing is ...you have to because Laurie and her mother,Sally Juspeczyk are in the Living room waiting for you to hurry up."
What's truly amazing in all of this, in a sea of misspellings, the author managed to spell Juspeczyk right. Although Sally went by the name of Jupiter, so it's still a FAIL. - Quote :
- " Laurie, this is my daughter Hope but everyone in the family calls her Melody." my mother said
Because one speshul name isn't enough. - Quote :
- I simply sruged and smiled
I know that's supposed to be 'shrugged', but I read it every time as 'surged', which brings to mind the old Surge commercials on TV, with guys leaping over the couches to get to the Surge can yelling, "SUUUUUUUURRRRGGGEEE!"

Too bad she copypasted from the wrong wikipedia article section. I like this comment between the slough of HoBF criticism, though: - Quote :
- Sweety, ignore wha they say. You can write whatever you darn want, and if this is how your gonna write it, i'm gonna read it.
I LOVE the idea, and i want to see it develop. please update. A Very comforting.

| I've been pretty hesitant to go near the Watchmen ficdom. I really enjoyed both the graphic novel and the movie, but if this is an indication of the quality of the rest of the fics over there, I'm really glad that I chose to stay away. | |

This was about the worst I could find. I"m sure there are others that are more... revolting. The Watchmen fandom seems split into three groups: 1.) The Majority- Suethors who woobify Rorschach. 2.) The Second Majority- Girls who write slash for Rorschach/Nite Owl 3.) The Minority- Serious writers who try to do something different or funny. But after the movie came out, holy smokes it exploded with Suethors everywhere. The whole "Rorschach meets a girl who understands" thing is done to DEATH. :headshot:

| Haha, sounds like I dodged a bullet there. Honestly, Rorschach is probably one of the least "redeemable" characters I've ever encountered. Where do these silly fanbrats get their ideas? | |

| I really have no idea. I haven't seen the film, I've just read and loved the graphic novel. While I loved Rorschach's character... I honestly cannot see the appeal in him. Then again, someone I can't remember from some place I don't know for sure (either on HoBF or on fuckyouwatchmen) summed it up pretty well. It's how you read into the line: - Quote :
- Physically, he's fascinatingly ugly. I could stare at him for hours...
Normal People:» He's fascinatingly ugly. I could stare at him for hours... » Fascinatingly ugly » UglyFangirls:» He's fascinatingly ugly. I could stare at him for hours... » Fascinatingly ugly. I could stare at him for hours... » Fascinating... Stare at him for hours...Okay so that's a bit botched from what they originally said, but you get the idea.

' Actually, the Watchmen fandom on LJ is pretty high quality. Most of the suethors got scared away by the overwhelming intelligence of the preexisting Watchmen fans who were all like GTFO WE'RE SCARY. It was prettyyyyy chill. If anyone needs some good fic recs for Watchmen, I'd be happy to oblige. (I might even start a thread in Antidotes for no good reason at all.) God, this is awful. So awful, and so cliched, that I'm pretty sure it's at troll, especially since the profile is so barebones.

| Some of it will be slashy. Is that chill, or should I keep it gen? (For real, though, even if you're not a slash person, there is one VeidtOwl fic that is SO GOOD SLASH IS NOT AN ISSUE.) | |

Post it anyway. There's some good slash that indeed can't be denied, and I curse whoever it was that painted this awesome Rorschach/Nite Owl because the pairing makes me RAAAAGE but oh god...

| You know, for once I'd like to see someone write an OC-female-meets-Rorschach-and-understands fic, only they do it realistically, like it doesn't have a happy ending, it doesn't go well, even if she really does understand him, and it doesn't work out the way she'd hoped. | |

Your wish is my command. Hands Off ily It's riddled with typos (and therefore could use a good beta), but I like it all the same.

| When I saw the title, I thought it was going to be a musical version of Watchmen. I had a mental image of Rorschach singing "The Impossible Dream". | |

Do it! Yeah. Do it! Do It! Yield to peer pressure! I thought of a song that might be more fitting than Rorschach doing "The Impossible Dream". (Too optimistic for him.) Maybe an elderly Sally Jupiter singing "Memory" would be fitting.
