So, a small army of black kids ransacked a Wal Greens to protest the shooting of Treyvon.

No, I don't know how that makes any sense either.

Also, some deformed fellow belonging to the House of Representatives took off his suit jacket, put on a hoody, made a colossal ass out of himself, and had to be thrown out.

Good to see that people aren't above exploiting a tragedy (whatever the particular facts of the case may be) for their personal gain.

That was my thought when I first saw a picture of him-that he's either Hispanic or part-Hispanic (I'm going with part-Hispanic, given his last name). Emmm. It probably depends on how "Hispanic" a person looks. I'm just guessing. Someone who's actually Latino/a would know more.

I don't think it's madly productive to get into which of these guys faced more prejudice because they're both men of colour. As far as race goes, it's my understanding that black youths have been stereotyped for years as thugs and criminals and that seems to be why Zimmerman assumed Martin was up to no good. Maybe the hoodie helped reinforce that idea in Zimmerman's mind but that doesn't make it Martin's fault because he didn't decide to put on a shirt and tie to go to the fucking shop for some fucking Skittles.

What has also been found is that he has been found in possession of burglary tools and a stash of women's jewelry, and his tweets are resplendent with violent anecdotes (his and that of his friends), plus he's had others among these same who have contacted him looking for drugs.

There's far more to this than the media reveals.

Spike Lee (The wanna-be controversial) film director has retweeted what he believed to be the address of Mr. Zimmerman's Family--threats came in the mail, hateful shouts and phone calls, media harassment and questions from neighbours has been visited upon this home--only to find that the home was NOT that of the Zimmerman Family, but the elderly couple who weren't related to the Zimmermans in any way.

The Black Panthers have had their sound on the matter--now, imagine the free-for-all that would happen if the Ku Klux Klan (The white Supremacist equivalent to the NBPP) would have had a drive to raise monies to help that Kid (His name was Allen Coon, aged 13) who was doused in gas and set on fire.

The words the kids were witnessed to use as they lit him up were “This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve, white boy.” It was "being investigated" to see if it was a genuine hate crime.

And the Allen Coon case is mild by comparison--the kid survived; but there are plenty of cases where the victim didn't. Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom, for example....could have just as easily been "killed for driving and being white".

That having been said, if the man was attacked he was defending himself; if the kid is the fresh-faced little innocent" why has there been such activity to obscure his records, his facebook, his tweets, and so on?

It's a structure of power issue, and it's hard to describe in terms of black and white. (Not race, I mean binary)

The essence of the argument is "The people in power are racist. There is no equivalent for the people not in power."

Therefore a white person is racist towards a black person because they are in power and have privilege.
A black person is not racist towards a white person because they do not have power / privilege.
A POC being hateful towards another POC depends on who is of the majority and has more power. Sometimes both are equally opressed themselves. Sometimes one has more power over the other.

The question of "is it racism" is more complicated than just black vs white.

For those not familiar with this theory, the idea is "Racism = Bias + Privilege". Since most modern societies tend to favor one racial/religious/cultural group over the rest, no one outside of the favored group has the privilege needed to elevate from mere bias.

In other words, Barak Obama can't be a racist, but Random McYokel from, day laborer from Someplace, MS can be, because the system inherently favors a white person, no matter what their disparity in wealth or societal status.

Nobody (besides Zimmerman, I suppose) knows if Zimmerman half charged at Martin with his weapon brandished demanding to know what Martin was doing or if Zimmerman actually stayed back with his weapon holstered out of sight and Martin instigated the fight. Or, if you do know, I'd appreciate you showing some evidence of it.
