Police pepper spray 9 year-old girl, charge her with multiple felonies.

Okay, that sounds pretty bad... but is that what caused the pepper spraying?

Police there charged her with four felonies: battery, for spitting on the bus driver; throwing deadly missiles -- the rocks -- at the school bus; battery of an officer (the tossed chair); and resisting arrest.

Okay. Big, apparently crazy, 9 year-old throwing a fit. Is THAT what caused the pepper spraying?

They've already restrained her once without resorting to pepper spray - and she was chucking crap at them at the time, so why not do it again?

It can blind you. That's usually rather permanent. It can also cause your tear ducts to bleed.

I had a feeling this had to do with someone not taking their meds. =/ But so much stuff in this makes me WUT. I kinda wonder how her home situation is as well.

As for the pepper spray... I guess the cops thought it'd be better to see her rolling around on the ground in pain instead of slamming her head against a wall? I dunno, stupid either way.

It can blind you. That's usually rather permanent.

Ahhhh, no. If blindness occurs it can last for 15-30 minutes.

I think the confusion comes from how Nihilist worded her post. She meant I was "policing" nine year old fatties because I was calling her fat, while Max thought "policing" meant the police were acting because she was fat.

Well, not so much less "likely" as less able I think. And the more random and ridiculous the instructions are is also part of the picture. You familiar with the John T. Williams case?

The "big picture" is that the mission assigned to the police in this case was to clear an area of a city designated by local property owners for gentrification, to clear it of people who did not fit into that plan. That involved a systemic pattern of confrontation and instructions to these people that were designed to be hard to comply with.
