Too late. A bear dragged her off and ate her.

The death itself isn't the award. The Darwin Award comes after the death and it's determined that she has not reproduced. So if the little old lady is a grandma, she might've died from a stupidity overdose but it's too late for a Darwin Award.

At least, until the bears come for her family, having acquired a taste for succulent, addictive human flesh.

Great. And now they're going to have to kill the bears she fed because they've lost their natural ability to forage and keep approaching humans expecting to be fed.

She apparently also hauled in bales of hay and bags of grain to feed the elk and deer. Who are gonna be confused as hell when they no longer get free hand outs, and may starve to death.

Good job, Grandma. Way to show your love for the wildlife!

But I ended up doing so in any case.

Landed on some docummentary about how Nostradamus always got everything right ever and totally predicted 9/11, because there's some obscure verses somewhere that mention "saboteurs" and "religion" and another book has an illustration of a pillar on fire.

The thing started pretty innocent enough, denoting a new book that could be lost writings from Nostradamus got discovered, and research was being done to verify its authenticity. They almost immediately start taking the book as legit anyway.

The last thing I watched on the History Channel was The Secret History of The Klu Klux Klan (which was available in full on YouTube, last I checked). The kind of program they don't even think making any more.

Hell, if they did have such an inclination the end result would probably be something like The Secret Conspiracy to de-Christianize America. (Or, The Freemasons Rolling Eyes )

Oddly enough I flipped it on around 8am the other day and they had a series devoted to hillbilly mythology. I saw the bit about making moonshine before I left for work and it was pretty cool. Then again it was hosted by Billy Ray Cyrus, talking about "his people," and I found it hard to take seriously after that...interesting how times have changed.

I completely debunked Nostradamus back when Japan was hit by the earthquake. I was in my local comic book/sci-fi shop, picked a book of Nostradamus's predictions off the shelf and turned to the relevant section - OOPS NO PREDICTION OF JAPAN GETTING HIT BY AN EARTHQUAKE AND THE NUCLEAR PLANTS GOING UP IN SHIT

But I bet it'll be in the next edition.

Oh, don't worry.

The trick that makes those prophets so accurate is simple: AFTER the shit happened, you can cherry-pick anywhere on the text for something that might sound like it may reference the event. So, it's just a matter of time after something happens, that someone grabs Nostradamus' writings and say that he totes predicted it.

I remember watching on History Channel LOCKED AND LOADED with R. Lee Ermey and enjoyed it.

Retrospectives of any kind interest me and a show about military weapons through the ages is just educational enough to keep my attention all the while feeling manly.

Another few documentaries I remember seeing were basically detailing the end of the world. And hey, I'm totally one for the Apocalypse. I'd love to see humanity washed away n a tidal wave of fire, screaming to their last! No more fucking up the government, no more having to worry about the economy, and what's more, I'll have enough bottle caps to live like a king in the wasteland!

Wait, I'm thinking Fallout....

But aliens? Come on, History Channel, leave that stuff for SyFy.

I watched an hour-long show on crumbling infrastructure in the United States today. The History Channel is still pretty awesome between the hours of 7am and 12pm EST. After that it turns into alien-worshiping disciples and psychics....

The same system's used by supposed 'Prophets' who predict the rapture, or 'The End of Days.' Any time the world situation gets bad, you get an upswing in ministers who've supposedly had it revealed to them that 'The End Time' is near. According to my dad, various and sundry groups have been predicting the rapture since before the turn of the century. It was especially big during the depression, World War 1 and II, the 1950s and when Vietnam was going on. There's always someone around to take advantage of people's fear of what the future holds, and the people most vulnerable to it are the ones who can't believe that a minister of the gospel would lie. Or maybe they're not lying, and they honestly do think the end of the world is near. That doesn't make the damage they cause any less painful.

It seems possible that someone may have conceived of such of plane, maybe even made some half assed plan for it. But it never got built because technology hadn't advanced to the point that allowed it to happen.

Kind of like Da Vinci's "Aerial Screw" that wouldn't have had a snowball's chance in hell of getting off the ground, but eventually became a helicopter. Or the V2 rockets that the Nazi's could never get to work worth shit, but evolved to be featured in the Korean War six years later.

Of course, there was such theory and conjecture all through WW2 that never really got anywhere, not all of it worthy of note. But when you have 24 hours to fill with random bullshit regarding history, you can only use so much relevant and interesting material before you start pulling stuff out of your ass.
