| Story here - Quote :
- Beauty's in the eye of the beholder and one San Fran mom is doing everything to make her little girl a true beauty. Instead of playing with her mommy's lipstick and make-up, Britney Campbell's mom injects her with Botox every three months.
Britney told The Sun tabloid, "My friends think it's cool I have all the treatments and they want to be like me. I check every night for wrinkles, when I see some I want more injections. They used to hurt, but now I don't cry that much."
I weep for the future. What's next? Babies getting plastic surgery? - Quote :
- Kerry says: "If I want Britney to be successful, I have to be realistic. She has to start as early as possible. I give her between 1-2ml of a saline and Botox solution per session.
In the past 12 months she has had different parts of her face and lips injected four times. I make her frown before injecting, which helps identify a potential wrinkle. This means we can get it before it even develops.
This is why I think these pageants should be shut down. This is going way too far. - Quote :
- And the beauty regime doesn't stop there. Kerry also waxes her daughter. "She also has her virgin wax monthly, which gets rid of her fluffy leg hair and makes sure she won't develop pubic hair in the future. It will save her a fortune in waxing when she's older."
Bolding mine. Sounds like she wants to keep her a little girl forever. Social Services is now getting involved, and rightly so: - Quote :
- Trent Rohrer of the San Francisco Human Services Agency told cameras, "It's pretty unusual for a mom to be injecting an 8-year-old with Botox. Certainly, it's grounds for an investigation." The agency finally got involved because there were too many unknowns, like Kerry's training, where the Botox she uses comes from and whether her daughter's pediatrician was consulted.
I don't know what they plan to do, but I definitely think something has to be done. What is this mother teaching her daughter about her self-worth? That if she has wrinkles (and I don't believe any eight-year-old has wrinkles. I don't have wrinkles, and I'm five times her age) or pubic hair, she's not beautiful? That's just wrong.

| I couldn't even come up with an appropriate emotion when I was watching this. The little girl fears she has wrinkles? The mother says it's okay because "all the other mothers are doing it"? Waxing imaginary pubic hair?
Somebody quick, give me an appropriate reaction so I don't look like a spluttering idiot.

| If there were a line on this story in Las Vegas, you could bet at least 6-1 odds the mother in question has got serious self-esteem issue. | |

| My guess? The mother has some serious body dysmorphic disorder that she's projecting onto her little girl. The thing that got me even more than the waxing and the botox (since if she stops both now, hair returns and Botox wears off) is that she wants to tattoo the kid's brows on and maybe tattoo pink lip-liner. And she wants to do it THIS YEAR. This is stupid enough with an adult. But she ISN'T FINISHED GROWING YET. I pray that no tat artist will do it, since otherwise this little girl, in addition to the years of therapy she probably already needs, is also going to have weird, misshapen dark blobs on her forehead. | |

As much as I'd feel sorry for the kid, I would love to see the mother's reaction when the tattooist makes a mistake.

What. The. Fuck. Besides the weird-as-fuck (and frankly maddening) stigmatizing of normal adult bodily characteristics, anyone else think this smacks of something pretty damn close to pedophilia? She's waxing her daughter's 8-year-old vagina. *shudders* The ONLY thing the vast majority of 8-year-olds have down there as far as hair is down. Literally, it looks and feels like the stuff on your arms when you're that young. It's just normal body hair. Same with leg hair, IIRC. Besides, what if this girl changes her mind when she grows older (and hopefully wiser, not just a parrot for her mom's twisted ideas) and she wants body hair? I wanted armpit hair when I was young. What if she later wants hair (or the cultural beauty standard has shifted away from a pubescent look as far as body hair), and she can't have it? So, so fucking sick and disgusting and dangerous to this little girl's mental and physical health.

Unless I'm mistaken, the mother is completely delusional about the idea that frequent waxing will eventually permanently get rid of the hair. Frequently waxing might reduce it a bit, but in order to get rid of it permanently you need electrolysis.

| Please, don't give this mother any ideas. She's already inflicting pain on her child. Ever have your legs waxed? There is PAIN. I can't imagine a mother intentionally hurting her child. This woman needs serious psychological help. | |

| I've watched a couple of the Child Beauty Pageants on cable, and the one thing that immediately becomes clear is that these mothers are projecting what 'they' want on their daughters, who, for the most part, are too young to argue. Maybe they were chubby when they were kids, or had mothers who had an unrealistic sense of what a small girl was supposed to look like, so they decided, when they had a daughter, "Well, she's going to get to be all the things I wasn't." Except eight-year-old kids have no idea what they really want and tend to do what their parents tell them because they're kids.
The waxing just blows me away. As someone said, eight-year-old girls don't HAVE body hair! At most, they have a very light down, which tends to be basically invisible. Also, waxing doesn't remove it permanently. The only thing that will do that is electrolysis, and I'd like to think that no competent specialist would do electrolysis on an eight-year-old girl.
Also, I didn't think Botox wore off, especially if you overused it. Isn't that how so many older female stars end up with their faces permanently frozen?

It's a very, very diluted form of the botulism toxin, but it does wear off after a while, once the body manages to process it and remove it.

| Actually, 8-year-olds might get... you know... creases in their face when they laugh or smile or frown. But it's ridiculous to think they're wrinkles.
This woman just... shocks me with her ignorance. Waxing an 8-year-old's pubic hair? WHAT pubic hair? And if it did, which it CAN'T, why would it matter? Is her daughter going to do a strip-tease in her beauty pageant? And it won't stop it from growing when puberty kicks in anyway (unless she's done some serious damage to the skin and hair follicles in that area by then, which she could if it goes on that long)
It's quite obvious that this woman is filling her daughter's head with the idea of superficial beauty, and that she probably has body image issues of her own. Well, except to her. Or maybe she's just desperate to make her daughter successful in beauty pageants and maybe movies so that she can leech off the money she makes and revel in reflected glory by claiming that, "It was me who made her so lovely, you know, blah blah blah."
It's not a guarrantee of future beauty anyway, while the girl's still developing. I dread to think what the mother will do when she inevitably gets her first pimple.
I hope her legs drop off.

| This is not the way to go for a parent worrying about their child's future appearance. Worried about future wrinkles? Use sunscreen and hats. Teach the child healthy eating habits. Worried about hair? Don't be. Hair is normal and natural, and if the child should be uncomfortable with it at some point, then let them try waxing, shaving, etc. | |
