So, I was listening to this:
And it occurred to me to make a thread about those songs that make you go weepy-eyed every time you hear them. Because, personally, I find sad music more satisfying than happy music. Post that music that drags a rusty saw across your heartstrings.

I get what you mean by sad music being more emotionally satisfying.

Every time. Every god damn time.

Both of these songs by Slipknot evoke a lot of emotion with me.
The second might be more personal sadness, but it's still a depressing song.

Oh god, this one. It's so beautiful and I love it so much. There is something about this tune that literally makes my chest ache. (And I'm outright forbidden from humming it in the house because it's so desperately sad.)

I have a similar response to the entire Kaiba soundtrack, but this song in particular: The Tree Song instrumental The Tree Song w/lyrics The Tree Song: a capella Why I cry every time I hear it.
Not many people know about this anime, but if you ever get the chance, check it out. It'll break your heart with every episode, but the pain is worth it.
How could I forget The Lord of the Rings soundtrack?

Usually, music doesn't make me cry. But in the exception of The Rose, if performed right and I'm in that mood between indifferent and depressed, I will tear up. It's a great and beautiful song, and if I feel miserable enough, I'll sing along with it (terribly, mind you) to feel better.
Aw, dammit...

Any of Hanz Zimmer's slower-paced stuff, particularly Gortoz A Ron, Davy Jones, and The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend.
Also anything by the original Captain Jack; not that the music is particularly sad, but it (and he) was so festive it's depressing to think he's dead with a replacement that's switched genres to awful teeny pop.

Ooh, that looks like an interesting anime; I'll be sure to check it out when I have the time. Thanks!
Also, the Minas Tirith theme sends chills up my spine every time.

Been re-watching the Mind's Eye series lately and remembering how great the music was...
1. Too Far 2. Windows 3. Armageddon 4. Valley of the Mind's Eye 5. Quantum Mechanic 6. Oceanic Celebration 7. The Traveler 8. One Dark World
Most of the series, let alone my favorites, aren't on Youtube, so here's a Grooveshark playlist to cover it all (it's also much better audio quality, considering most of the Youtube uploads are taken from VHS, but these all go well together with their visuals. Particularly "Oceanic Celebration," which involves dolphins in Hawaiian shirts, as well as ethereal dolphins in the woods.)
