This is an interresting timeline about nonsexual nudity. Yes, it is Wikipedia. And despite Christianity's views on nudity, there used to be a sect called the Adamites who rejected clothing and marriage in order to regain the primal innocent the Adam and Eve lost.

In the area I live in, the natives went mostly naked up until the Spanish came in and told them it was sinful (and then enforced that view). Men and children wore nothing (and I do mean nothing) except sandals and maybe some jewelry, while women wore a skirt made of grass or bark. Bare breasts were unremarkable. So were naked children. Full frontal nudity in men? Big deal. Clothing (furs) was reserved for cold weather, which in southern California, only occurred for a few weeks out of the year. So, wait, I'm a bit confused as to the effect these protesters were going for. They were inside the law, so that wasn't the problem. They apparently weren't expecting to get ogled, so THAT wasn't the problem. So what was the problem exactly?

If they were trying to demonstrate that toplessness is precieved differently depending on which sex is doing it, well, congratulations on your grand slam. But if they weren't fishing for the reaction they got, I'm not really sure what what reaction they were going for.
