Well, I was going to post my own topic, but I may as well just put it here to decrease clutter:

I've always thought that Haiti is one nation that can't catch a break.
As if the poverty and unstable government isn't enough already, it
seems to constantly be getting hit by every hurricane that passes
through the Caribbean. But this is bad even by Haitian standards.

To put this in perspective, about 5,000 died in the 9/11 attacks, while
I think the Hurricane Katrina death toll in New Orleans was somewhere
in the neighborhood of 1,000. Although the numbers in the above quote
may be overestimates, even if it's a fraction of that...dang.

What makes it worse, though, is this:

Pat Robertson needs to stop pulling fairy tales about pacts with the devil out of his ass and, y'know, help people. One help could be buttoning his lip.

I think it was Michael Savage who compared Robertson to a beached whale on the shore of the Hudson. Every so often, he beaches himself, making a spectacle of himself. People see him and go, "Oh shit, this lump actually exists." Then they get together, push him back into the Hudson and go on about forgetting he ever existed.

If the so-called pact with the Devil was made in the time of Napoleon III or whatever , then everyone who made it (yes, whole countries can willingly choose evil en masse, it says so in the Bible, the entire populations of Sodom and Gomorrah were rapists/inhospitable! :bang: ) must be long dead by now. So of course, it makes perfect sense to banhammer the country *now*, as opposed to immediately after the pact. Fundie-YHWH works in mysterious and also slow ways.

I think most Haitians are Catholic, too--which would be another reason for Robertson to hate them and say they're in league with teh Debbil.

Yeah, I think Haiti and Domincan Republic are very Catholic. You know, those that aren't worshiping voodoo devil pact making zombies. Oh wait, he probably thinks Catholics are heathens.

RE: The text donation thing: it looks like it's only for AT&T customers from what I see online, but I thought it was possible the search brought up wrong or incomplete information. The Red Cross or the Salvation Army have both been listed as the receiving charity so I'm not sure who is actually getting it.

Anyone heard any contradictory information and can point me to it via link? I'm with T-mobile, so if what I've been reading is true, it won't work for me.

I can still give via the Red Cross' page, just curious for more information.

I'm going to go give blood, and try to send them money. Jeezus, I really wish I could be more useful to them, but I don't have any skills that pertain to this situation.
