Ikea is kind of fun, as longas you keep away from the holiday rushes - I like to dig around in their photography/framing section, since they sell some pretty black and white prints, and there's some nifty frames out there. And Ikea in Stockholm sell really tasty hot dogs for only 70 cents. Seriously. And agreed on the spanner - if nothing else, it will help you put that Ikea furniture together when the instructions fail you. What is being done with it now does not invalidate its value as an invention when it was first made. - Re: Authors wrote:

... Norman Mailer won the Pulitzer, but never the Nobel Prize, though he was in the running several times. This is just one example of many, and I don't have the sort of energy to search out and quote all the others I can think of. And my original comment was more of a sock towards Horace Engdahl, who is a bit of a twit - though thankfully a recently replaced twit. - Re: chemotherapy wrote:
- Yeah, originally intended to be used as a weapon, aka Mustard Gas.
Original intention does not invalidate the end-result. The fact that it is currently used to treat cancer and not kill people sort of redeems it from its origins, don't you think? - Quote :

Yes I know I'm being petty but I hold true that nothing you guys have every done makes up what you're up to now in anyway. I'm bloody british and I know for a fact england has done some daft stuff over the years, you get called on it, deal with it.
Why did you put this part in spoiler tags? It's not as if it's particularly spoiler-worthy. Also, can we get back to the tragedy of the shooting now? Because that's what I thought we were talking about.

| Ah - thanks, Sloth - your list made me thing of another; Joyce Carol Oats, the Perpetual Loser of the Nobel Prize. She's nominated practically every year, but never wins.
I can't personally attest to the quality of her writing, but I've heard it's good.

| ... I'm not going to bring up what England has done in the past, because this is getting ridiculous. I'm almost starting to miss the Harley-wank that could have been.
So - man shooting his entire family. It's tragic, and I'd like to know if they've found the perpetrator, because that would be good.
Does anyone have any updates on the situation?

I'll be honest: I've only read one of his short stories. I just have a friend who likes him a lot and the story I read wasn't bad.

Mid conversation people started quoting names at me a load of them I've never even heard of. Somehow we shifted from "America has shat on the world alot lately" to "America has too got good writers" though how that happened is beyond me.

hurr I also said you guys make inferior biscuits, that you invented chemo by accident while making weaponry and that no you did not invent the marker pen it was a world wide thing. Though apparently only frost decided to reply to me entire post and not a minor comment I made cause guess what, I know shit all about american litrature. The only books I own by am american writer are the song of ice and fire books. I'm ever so sorry my knowledge lies in a different area than the rest of you. Never become teachers, you would all be very shit at it.
