Shadow of The Colossus. You get no new stuff to use against the colossi, so it's boring after the third one or so. Framerate is slow at places, and by places I mean fucking everywhere. Why play it when there's so many better options, with more action, around?

I like Okami - I haven't finished it yet, as I got into it rather late - but I like it. I don't really mind it being easy, as I'm mostly sitting there listening to the music and going "Oooooh" over the pretty pictures. It's one of those games I can play just for the pretty.

Yes, it is hard to draw stuff with the brush on the Wii version, but I've seen my friend play it on the PS2 and it seems fine. I like the pretty pictures and learning that I can't draw a circle to save my life.

I borrowed it from a friend and am playing it on the PS2, and I have to say that thus far, I have found nothing at all to complain about - except maybe that sometimes, Issun talks too much. Otherwise, it's just pure eyecandy all the way through, and it's enjoyable eyecandy too.

I'm not saying that everyone has to absolutely love it, but to compare it to "boring intellectual novels" is going a bit too far, inmy opinion. I mean, I have never in my life had this much fun while drawing crooked circles and squiggly lines.

Okami is spiffy. I've heard people compare it to Ocarina of Time, though, and that's a bit too far.

The dinky fights against random baddies are simple, easy, and repetitive. However, there are enough badass bosses and those hellish Evil Gate Marathons (you know, the one where you fighting four of one boss AT THE SAME FUCKING TIME) to make the fighting fun.

Also, it took me two hours to get the hang of drawing that straight line. :redangry: I could do EVERYTHING else. Shit, I could have painted Starry Night with the Wii-Mote, but I couldn't manage a horizontal line.

What they need is a sequel or similar game that is as nifty as Okami.

Okami is fucking awesome. I don't say that to sound cool, I say it because I played it until my thumbs hurt because I was having so much fun. The only thing that stopped me from 100%-ing it was my ineptitude at fishing, and I did the rest gladly, not out of a sense of obligation like some games. So, yeah.

I'm not sure how I feel about the sequel. Clover disbanded immediately after Okami, so it's being done by new people, and I've been hurt that way before. Yeah, Climax, I'm looking at YOU. SILENT HILL: HOMECOMING [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Frostflowers, the thing about FFVII is that it's gone beyond the original game. I don't mean the Compilation, we can all hate that equally, I mean the fandom. FFVI is my favorite, too, and FFIX is definitely better than FFVII, but FFVII is my favorite fandom because...well, there's just so much of it. People have never stopped writing about it and drawing stuff for it and talking about it for some weird reason, and it's added up to something special, somehow. I really wish that the other games had that kind of fandom, though. There needs to be more Setzer Rule 34 in the world [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Oh yeah - give the other games some love, too; the way some people speak, you'd think FFVII was the only game in the series.

One of the awesomest moments of fangirling I've ever experienced was at the world premier of Final Fantasy: Distant Worlds in Stockholm, when Uematsu came out on stage and a guy dressed up as Kefka - full clown-make-up and all - stood up in the row in front of me and gave him a standing ovation. Okay no, not really, but try as I might, I could never get into FFVI, which everyone swears up and down is so awesome. VIII was a trite exercise in wangst, and I never bothered with IX. X was okay, X-2 was stupid fun, XI was avoided, and XII was a work of putrid hatred unleashed by Squanix upon its fans.

And I'm going to ripped up for this one but I think Majora's Mask was a better game than Ocarina of Time. Both were excellent and OoT was a staple of my childhood but MM was just...more engaging for me.

I liked Majoras Mask better myself (plot's a bit more original, for one thing, and I liked Termina), although I watched an LP of it recently, and was amused by how they reuse the NPCs. Also, the fact that you haven't really helped everyone (unless you manage to do it in three days) is kind of sad.

Butbutbut, FFXI is awesome-possum. It's just fucking impossible to get anything done past level 40 if you don't have 4 hours, MINIMUM, to dedicate to playing.

That last sentence is perfect. It's almost like SE said "Let's see if we can put all that's wrong with the FF series into one game and see what people do."

I wanted to be Rydia as a kid, for srs. The character I created later to represent my inner child ended up looking like a palette-swap of her. I just had this chronic problem of renting the game, then returning the game and having some bastard steal my save file so I'd have to start over. Playing the first five hours of a game a half-dozen times makes you a tad bitter.

I honestly don't understand why so many people hate FFXII. It's like a really good MMORPG without all that "other people" nonsense. It definitely has its obnoxious parts, but it's one of those atmospheric games like Majora's Mask that I can just get happily lost wandering around in.

Of course, I'm also biased because it has an enormous bestiary with really neat monsters. One thing that always broke my heart about FFIX is that it had the absolute best monsters and they didn't carry any of them over. Where are my Bandersnatches and my Abominations and my Grimlocks and my Gimme Cats, I ask? Where? WHERE?
