For that matter, complexities of the human psyche should never really be explored with alien robots. It's fucking Transformers, not Battlestar Galactica. You and Michael Bay can go sit in the corner until you find out what exactly a robot is, and then get back to us. Unless you're talking about Beast Wars, which is basically about the complexities of human psyche. Certainly the exception to the rule, but as I never cared for Gen 1 (I was JUST old enough to think of it as pure Narm, really,) Beast Wars is the only part of it that's Not Filler, as far as I'm concerned. Oh, Dinobot...

| Nobody would be interested in Transformers if their psyches weren't close to identical to that of a human. This is also true of canon. The only thing really different was their understanding of organic stuff; even their culture is similar. People are kind of arrogant like that. | |

No, it'd just be harder to identify with them. Doesn't mean they wouldn't be interesting, if you can divorce your own ego from interest.

| Yes, and you don't sympathise with that which you can't identify with. Do you really think Transformers would have lasted thirty years if they had different cultures, attitudes or morals? If Optimus Prime didn't suffer from the completely illogical Potato Chip syndrome?
The Transformers, despite being giant alien robots, who in G1 were built to be appliances, suffer from the whole range of human emotions. Including love.

Do you really think they would have lasted if they dropped the whole space-wars-laser-guns aspect and focused on bland rape drama? Conversely, do you think that Asimov's robot stories would be as popular as they are if they were just humans with metal junk?

And you know damn well that Transformers would never have been a 'bland rape drama', because there's no such thing ever been made for CHILDREN'S TELEVISION.

Says a little punk who obviously doesn't know what 'basic literacy' means if he's accusing somebody who's reading his post and writing a response. Yeah, nice insult, K.

| You see, this is the main problem of this board; we say we're here to improve fanfiction and all we do is get people's backs up and don't help anybody much.
But since nobody's going to accept that I can make a decent point right now, shall I punch Garret in the face?

Actually, people have received plenty of help from this community before, even when their concepts were dangerously in "bad" territory. It's only the people who go on belligerently defending their badness that get insulted. - Quote :

Since we all know that's not actually going to happen, and yet you keep talking about punching board members in the face, how about you do this instead: Every time you type something about punching another board member in the face, you punch YOURSELF in the face, as hard as you can, and then backspace over what you've written. Repeat as necessary.

And no, I don't think anybody appreciates the kind of advice that starts with "Go to hell" or "Just shut up already".

You don't have to say "HEY THAT ALIEN IS JUST LIKE ME!" to sympathize with it. You don't have to want to be that alien to identify with it either. You just have to identify with a trait or some other form of behavior. In other words, it doesn't have to be a robotic epileptic asspie with a rape fetish, unless you're also a narcissist. - Quote :

As long as people bought the toys, yes. - Quote :

That doesn't mean they're necessarily human. A lot of sci-fi loses focus by simply making aliens into funny-looking humans.

It's funny that Penguin brought Galactica up. Galactica is almost like a good version of whatever it is your trying to do. It has rape and forced sex being used as a plot point, complete with tragic consequences no less, and one could view the Cylons' actions as being largely motivated by a desperate desire for someone to love them. The difference is that the creators of that show set out to tell a story, and you really just want pointers on a masturbation fantasy. It's porn for Christ's sake. There's a reason why nobody assigns complex character motivations to the pizza delivery boy who accepts a blowjob instead of a tip. Your robot-fucking story is going to be objectively terrible no matter what advice we give, so just shut the fuck up and write it and accept that you're never going to win the Pulitzer, or go and and when you're finished think of something better.

| Pretty much. The only reason why I didn't bring that up is because the Cylons were originally created by humans, so their very human minds made sense. I didn't want to inadvertantly supply Harley with ammo. | |

| Nobody ever said Transformers made any sense. If you started out pointing out the plotholes (like with Cosmic Rust, or all the scale issues) you'd never get around to thinking up pairings.
I swear, if a fan had invented G1, we'd probably be blamming its logical fallacies right here.
And yes, Rodimus Prime is a Stu.

Ah, I see. Transformers is really about romance (well, rape). I never watched it, so I guess if I did, I would understand this urge to write about robots raping each other all the time.
