| I'm not kidding. This is just INSANE. It's like a mixture of new-age woo and Catholicism.
I found one of their websites because it links to mine.
The Elven Spiritual Path
It's just so... sad. There really is no other way to absorb the true horror of this until you read it.
Basic parameters of their religion: The Histories of Middle-earth and The Silmarillion are about a real place and are an actual mythology, not just some made up stories. Something unintelligible about "vibrations" and the world being made out of music. Spelling "magic" with a K and "fairy" with an E.
Yeah, Tolkien was a talented writer and linguist... but IT'S NOT REAL IS JUST FANTASY WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!?
Anyways, I'm just kinda horrified. I've met people who believe in fairies and elves, but the ones from actual mythology, so their crazy is just a little more justified than this. This... I have no words for this.

| Anyone using the word "magick" is kinda hard for me to take seriously even in a humorous sense I'm sorry | |

| I suppose the Catholicism makes sense (Tolkien was a devout Catholic, and I always sort of saw Frodo as being a kind-of Christ-like figure.') But the Elven part is just silliness. The Elves obviously possessed magic of some sort, but I don't believe it was ever elaborated on as to what they believed or where the magic came from (I will admit I never made it very far into the Silmarillion', so if it was explained, my bad).

| The only elven path I know is a Nightwish song! I have seen "faeries" before, so I'm not too bothered about that. I'm also not too bothered about fictional religions based upon literature (if I wanted to be mean I could say that Christianity was one such religion... ), and I can respect a religion based on spiritual themes. But people who think that this stuff is real need help. They are stories. Elves don't really exist. Neither do orcs, goblins, demons, dragons, trolls, giant spiders and magic rings that make you grow sharp teeth, crawl around a lot and refer to yourself in third person. | |

| Tolkien's world was impressively detailed, but in no way realistic.
I mean, forests behind a rain shadow.
Nobody can believe this shit is real, come on.

| Every time I get a notice someone has posted to this thread, I misread it at 'The Eleven Path' and think someone's created a new religion based around Dr. Who.
Wait. That already exists, doesn't it?

I've just been investigating that link myself, and I can honestly say I'm as creeped out by it as you are. There's a fine line between fandom and psychosis, and these people have leapfrogged over it. I like LOTR as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to worship it. The crew at TES are crossing into Twilight territory here.

| I think poor Tolkien would be lost for words. I love his work, but this is just completely ridiculous. It kind of reminds me of Futurama's Church of Trek. | |
