Texas, on the other hand, is in the central south of the Untied States, and is bordered by the gulf of Mexico. We are a blue state, they are a red state. We are tiny and surly and opportunistic, they are big and pigheaded and bullying. We are Slytherin, they are Gryffindor.

Seriously, Lapin, you're right-- the Texas joke was incredibly stupid. And to answer your question: I am indeed aware of Baltimore's geography. One of my former high school classmates is currently living there and works on the staff of Johns Hopkins.

"Haida" is not a costume. Yes, I appreciate that you were inspired by Haida art after one visit to an art gallery. Sure, have a brownie point for mentioning an actual tribe instead of "Indian". That doesn't give you the right to appropriate symbols into a costume to wear once.

P.S. you're probably not aware they you're essentially dressing up as an almanac / gravestone. Totem Poles are stories. Why not go as one of the characters themselves like Raven, instead of a book.

Also, I, and a few other bloggers interested in both fashion and native issues am terrified that "Haida" is becoming the new "Navajo". It's got a unique style and is far easier to say than Qwum’yiqun’ or L’uml’umuluts.
