A LEECH found in the nostril of a nine-year-old girl has been nicknamed "T-Rex" by researchers because of its giant teeth.

Physician Renzo Arauco-Brown spotted the blood-sucker hiding in the nose of the Peruvian child, who was said to take regular dips in lakes and rivers in the country's Amazonian region.

She became concerned after feeling a sliding sensation at the back of her nose, The Sun reports.

The creature's proper name - Tyrannobdella rex - means "tyrant leech king".

At 130 microns high, its teeth were slightly wider than the width of a human hair.

Researcher Mark Siddall, from the American Museum of Natural History in New York, said: "That's at least five times as high as other leeches. And everyone found with these had a frontal headache.

"Their teeth are big and these things hurt."

Holy crap, take a look at the teeth on that thing. Never mind sharks, these things will bite you from the inside out. WHY NATURE? WHY?!

There are such a thing as giant candiru. There was a show (Deadly 60? Can't find the clip I'm after) where the presenter dangled a dead fish a little less than a foot long in the water. One strike of a giant candiru was enough to bore a neat hole a centimetre wide in the fish's belly, and when the rest of them were allowed to have a go at the fish the whole thing was gone in about thirty seconds.
