New Zealand mayor says to pay problem parents to not have children

"There are too many people who should not have children."

Beyond the whole ugly eugenics/racism/classism issues, this guy just sounds like kind of a jerk.

That sounds like it would translate to something like "STUPID PEONS WITH YOUR STUPID REQUESTS SHUT UP AND LET ME KEEP CARRYING THE WHITE MAN'S BURDEN HOW DARE MY CONSTITUENCY ACTUALLY REQUEST ANYTHING OF ME".

Yay! Eugenics! Best thing ever!

Yes, it is desperately sad that children are abused. But to assume that you can identify which parents will be abusive/neglectful/whatever before they actually do anything wrong is both an astonishing over-generalization and stupendously insulting to the vast majority of poor parents who do not abuse or mistreat their children in any way. You can not punish people for crimes they may or may not commit in the future.

Wait, how much would they pay? 'Cause if they did this in the U.S., it would be fairly easy to pass yourself off as a 'problem parent'.
