Ted Kennedy did some despicable things in his private life. He also did some great things in his public life. In short, he was a complex human being.

Did his public work make up for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne? No. Did it still help a lot of people? Yes.

People do stupid, vicious things sometimes--things that can't be undone or made right. But if a person can take the bad things they've done and try to atone for them, and thus make a positive difference in people's lives, then at least something good has come out of it. It would be better if the bad things never happened, but they do. I'm not saying a person's misdeeds should be forgotten, but neither should the good things they've done be discounted.

I seem to remember saying I was glad Wacko Jacko was dead, and no one jumped on me. Fuck the dead. They're dead--they don't care anymore.

I am rather sad to see the senator go, but even if I said he was a jerk-off asshole, it wouldn't matter.

Fuck respecting the dead. When somebody dies, it is time to tell the truth about them. All of it. Good, bad, indifferent. The time after a person dies is the last thing that will ever be for them, so it needs to represent them in total.

When I say "respect the dead", it doesn't mean forever. It means "at least wait until the damn body is in the ground before you start running them down".

What's the difference between a dead person that's not buried and a dead person who's buried? The body doesn't turn into something special after burying. Also, ghosts don't exist, so who cares?

I think if you have an opinion on a matter(backed up with proper arguments), you should say it. I personally don't have an opinion on Ted Kennedy. World doesn't come better place by staying silent.

I am sick to death of this shit. I respect anyone's opinion so long as they can give a clear, concise, and well thought out argument to back it up. Penguin and Gaijinguy are both very intelligent and, even if I don't personally agree with them 100% of the time, they always make a solid case for their opinion. It really chaps my ass that people are so fucking close minded that they lump anyone who isn't super liberal in with the KKK and Ann Coulter.

Pardon? Please point out where I lumped anyone in with the KKK and Ann Coulter. I didn't call anyone hyper-conservative, uber-right Obama haters, or insult Penguin or Guy's intelligence.
