Rob Liefield Hates Gay People

Without wanting to be accused of beating a dead horse, I have opted to place this thread in the Golden Oldies more for posterity than sporking. Nowadays Rob Liefeld needs no explanation. His art speaks for itself.


Rob Liefeld is a "professional" "artist" in all the respect that sarcastic fingerquotes can give. This man has made millions of dollars without ever learning to draw a proper hand or foot, reducing even the wankiest Deviantart fanartist with millions of hits to a mere shadow in his giant shitpile of badness.

This page does a pretty good job of summing him up.

Now, fopr those of you who think that criticism is a little bit harsh; that this person may just be an embittered little-known artist trying to get more attention, let's explore Rob Liefeld's own website.

Yep, one of those pictures is right on Rob's front page, proudly displayed. Gun pointing in two different directions, muscles larger than heads, and pouches fucking everywhere.

Rob Liefeld has never seen a woman. This may be typical fodder for the mockery of comic book creators and lovers alike, but in this case it must be sadly true. He has no concept of women's bodies, how they function, and worst of all, how they function differently from men. The poor "girl" in picture 6 has shoulders wider than her hips, and a lovely package going on down below. Also, her shoulder are two different widths because Rob has no sense of perspective.

Although I didn't search every board, I hazzarded a guess that there was already a thread about him. I feel that he has graduated to the position of Golden Oldie alongside Celebrian, and that one story where Legolas has a zombie elf trying to marry him who wants the gem stuck in his neck.

You know, I had no idea how shitty an artist Liefeld was until he left Marvel to start Image and someone else took over drawing X-Force. Seeing Cable for the first time drawn like he was intended to look was a breakthrough. Hell, seeing the whole team drawn like actual human beings was a breakthrough. It didn't help that he drew the young girls in X-Force (Boom-Boom and Feral) just like he drew Domino. Boomer was supposed to be maybe 15 at the most, and Feral wasn't much older (and was looked more like a cat than a human), and they STILL had little tiny waists and humungous breasts.

We won't even go into the teeny misshapen feet and four-fingered hands.

And I still haven't forgiven him for what he did to Deadpool. Deadpool was never intended to be a big hulking guy-that was part of his appeal. He wasn't much to look at size-wise, and then he'd go and rip your lungs out with his bare hands. For laughs.

They're there-you just have to look really hard because they're pretty much obscured by the speed lines.

Why Liefeld insisted on drawing everyone with speed lines when they were standing perfectly still is another thing I'll never figure out. I thought speed lines were supposed to indicate, oh, I dunno, movement, maybe?

I wish I hadn't destroyed my Liefeld inspired sketches from when I was a teenager. I could have posted them and made a case for that man destroying a child's creativity.

I haven't said this very much before, and God knows how long it'll be before I say it again, but...I agree with Cyberwulf. That picture absolutely reeks of fail--how Liefeld gets any work in the comics industry at all, let alone with one of the world's greatest comics publishers, is a mystery even Sherlock Holmes would have a hard time solving.

1. There's a nude Photoshop showing just how fucked the anatomy is. Google it, I'm not kidding.

2. This drawing? It was the very first image released to promote Liefeld and Jim Lee's "Heroes Reborn" project. It was showcased in Wizard to drum up interest. And apparently Jim Lee begged Liefeld not to submit it and lost.

Oh, and note how Glory's "holding" her sword. The human hand doesn't grip things like that.

When I was a kid, they came out with the first articulated Barbie Dolls; i.e., ones that could bend at the wrists and knees. Unfortunately, whoever articulated the wrists had little to no knowledge of human anatomy, because the wrists could be articulated 360 degrees. I.E., you could have Barbie's palm facing up while the back of her arm was still perfectly flat.

I think that's what happened to the chick with the sword. It's actually fairly common with Liefield. Just one more example of massive anatomy fail.

We won't even go into the mountanous breasts and teeny tiny waists. My sons and I used to joke that Liefield women apparently keep their internal organs in a pocket of hyperspace, because there's no way they could fit them inside their bodies.
