| Not matter points we came in on when we first entered our fandoms, there seem to be a time where anyone who was anyone would write the same story or use the same storyline over and over again. But now, looking over the fandom, a lot of those plots aren't as written as much, if at all anymore.
So, what plots in your fandom have you notice that use to be the bee's knees but now hardly anyone touches them anymore?

| 4chords-- a boring humanized AU that died a fitting death after a sudden burst of unwarranted popularity. Now, we never speak of it except in hushed whispers. | |

| High school fics in places that aren't high school or teenagery places. I mean, it still exists, but not so much as it used to, since people are aware it's not original any more. | |

Uh ... that's funny, because I see them all the time. Fanbrats don't care about being original.

| Hmmm. Prosbsbly true; I do have a bad habit of making entirely unfounded statements.
Although... are people making gender bender fics less?

"Genderbend" as in changing canon males to female characters still goes on a lot in the Hetalia fandom but that's partly because the creator did make genderflipped versions of some of the characters (Nyotalia). I'm only active in one fandom, but something I've seen a decline in is "Guy A loves Guy B, but Guy B is getting married to Girl C OH NOES but A and B wind up together while C is just sort of there/a horrible bitch so it's totally justified".

| Hacked made for TV movies about teen pregnancy where both parents go full retard for 3/4 of the movie and only half retard for the last quarter.
Also, drugs were all teens are busy snorting anything that looks like white powder behind the bleachers while their parents mistake the marigolds in the garden for pot.

It is, depressingly. Every minute I see at least eight RPers trying to get someone to bite and take their horrible, overdone 'look at my poor abandoned troll' prompt.

| Hannibal fandom was recently rife with a thing called omega-verse. The idea behind this was that certain men go into heat like animals and are capable of getting pregnant. That's mainly died down recently, thank fuck. | |

| /\ What? Whuuuuut? I don't under...wait. Yaoi fangirls. Now it all makes sense.
Can't think of any plots that have faded in my particular fandoms that I frequent. SSDD; and all horribly executed. I swear, like the first two pages of searching on the Pit are the most cliched, horribly spelled dreck one can find.

| Ohhh yes. Omegas, depending on the writer, either have an asswomb or like...carry a baby in their colon or something; Alphas are the ones that can get them pregnant. Female Alphas? Have a cock, because of course they do.
It was actually really problematic too, because the 'heats' the omegas went into, basically caused every Alpha in six miles to want to have sex with them, whether they like it or not. Done right, that could be turned into incisive commentary on rape culture's 'But what was she wearing when it happened?' phenomena---though of course that gives fantwits way too much credit.
Oh, I just remembered one from another fandom! Grimm fanwriters like to assert that Monroe has a knot like a dog's on his penis. Because uh-hurrr uh-hurr he's wolflike, durrrrr....

| In the Kuroshitsuji fandom, "Sebastian takes Ciel to Hell to be a sex slave" and the somewhat newer "Sebastian eats Ciel's soul, described in loving detail" seem to have vanished. The more recent plot developments, especially in the anime, are the cause.
Those were so much better plots than the current horrible deluge of Mary Sue.

| It's not the Alpha, Betas, (why Beta? Mu is the middle of the Greek alphabet), or Omegas that gets me. It's the 'knotting'. For those lucky enough not to have met the omegaverse, an Omega comes into heat and the Alphas have to mate with them. Omegas don't like this so they take medication to reduce their on heat pheromones. Betas, who are oddly sexless, procure Omegas for Alphas, kidnapping them and not allowing access to the medication. So that when they become the slaves of Alphas, Omegas are on heat.
When on heat, Alphas 'knot'. That is their penis gets stuck in whatever kind of hole it's in and remains so for hours while both parties have multiple orgasms. This gets the Omega pregnant.
And very sore, I'd have thought.
For some unfathomable reason, this turns up a lot in Chris Hemsworth/Tom Hiddleston fanfic. And in Tom/Loki fics, Loki can canonically change gender and can use his magic to change Tom. So the gender bending fics are alive there too.

| Well, this makes some of my early disaster fics seem helpless by comparison, yet still, awful. I may ask one of you to do a snark sometime; I need to find the worst one of the bunch. | |

| Oh yeah, I keep seeing omegaverse fics pop up in all kinds of fandoms. The worst thing about it imo is it is sooo lazy. Whoever the author casts as the omega is a sobbing wreak who needs cuddles all the time, the alpha is some over protective, violent asshole, etc. The actual characters do not matter at all and there does not really need to be a plot, just this one guy neeeeeds this other guys because hormones and blah blah lets spend the whole fic talking about how this one guys is in constant need of cuddles and maybe mpreg??
Bleh. | |

| it doesn't even make any fucking sense I mean they're drawing from supposed dog and wolf behaviours and well
I own an alpha male dog. He wants an alpha female. A great big bully like him who bosses all the bitches around. THEY MUST HAVE ALPHA PUPS FOR THEY WILL BE GLORIOUS.
Omegaverse is just yaoi tropes with added dog dick.

| Blerg, I meant one of my own lol. Maybe I'll do it even; then again, looking at the damn things makes me wish I never wrote them. It was a long time ago, back in the beginning teen years, and everybody does stupid shit then.
Number one reason why I can't seem to ship yaoi; het. does fall into this, but it doesn't seem as bad as yaoi. Then again, I'm one of the few people who never gives a shit about pairing or powerlevels and only cares about how well a character has been developed over the course of the story. Hence Naruto right now; We all know who's gonna win, I only care if my poor, flanderized as hell character gets a somewhat 'happy' ending for him that doesn't end in death. Sadly, he's a tragic hero archetype so I think death will be his only option.
