Quote :
The House voted to repeal ObamaCare on Thursday for the third time since Republicans took over the chamber in 2011.
Only two Democrats sided with Republicans in the party-line 229-195 vote — Jim Matheson (Utah) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.). All Republicans voted in favor of repeal.
This is the 37th time the House GOP has voted to repeal or defund at least part of the bill, but this latest bill will also not become law given Democrats' control of the Senate.

THIRTY-SEVEN FUCKING TIMES. Thirty-seven attempts to get rid of a government initiative that, while shittily implemented and poorly-funded, still gives healthcare access to millions of Americans who would otherwise have to go without. The GOP officially has no conscience.

Quote :
Still, many House Republicans had clamored for the bill from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) to be considered, while Democrats accused the GOP of wasting the House's time.

Michele Bachmann. Quelle surprise. I'm trying to imagine any Aussie politicians as vile as her, but honestly, I got nothing. Not even Julie Bishop comes close and she's pretty damn nasty.

Quote :
Democrats argued that the bill would cut off healthcare access to millions of people, but mostly criticized the bill as a waste of time, since the Senate will not consider the bill, and President Obama has said he would veto it. Many noted that the House has repeatedly voted to repeal either all or part of ObamaCare.
"Apparently the Republicans are opposed to ObamaCare," Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said. "I know that comes as a shock to America, so we need to tell them one more time, or 37 times, or maybe a 38th or a 39th or a 40th or a 100th time."

It doesn't matter how many times you tell them anything, the GOP are 100% committed to denying reality.

Quote :
Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) said Republicans should be ashamed of wasting taxpayer funds on these repetitive votes that go no where.

"Quit wasting the taxpayers' money and the Congress's time. You should be ashamed of yourself," Doyle said. Doyle and Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) estimated that the cost of these votes is $53 million and said that money would be better used in other ways.

Damn right.

so i was reading a blog post over at shakesville about how the republicans have been blowing up everything everywhere over some low level irs people giving extra scrutiny to the tea party's application for tax relief or something before granting the tax relief anyway and omg this is an injustice impeach obama and they're being so ridiculous even news shows acknowledged they were telling lies

and the author of the post pointed out that not only are the republicans wasting government time with all this horseshit but they're eroding their own credibility as an opposition party

they cried wolf so loudly over this minor thing that nobody will listen if they ever call the government out on an actual injustice

they're actually putting democracy in danger for the sake of this partisan crap

I think the GOP knows these bills won't succeed, but they're red meat for their crazy fringe voters--who happen to do a lot of the voting in primaries.

I see these voters as the biggest problem the GOP has. They either nominate a nutbar that loses them a likely pickup the general election (Joe Miller, Sharon Angle, Todd Akin...), or they nominate a nutbar who wins and goes on to help make the GOP look like a total clown caucus (Louis Gomert, Jason Chaffetz, Michelle Bachman...).
