Schools in California, New Mexico, and Illinois have taken it upon themselves to prohibit students from ingesting Frito-Lay's "Flamin' Hot Cheetos", even going so far as to confiscate them from a student's lovingly packed lunch from home.

The reason? The off-shoot of the popular cheese flavored corn snack is a part of a wide range of foods that are "Hyperpalatable", sweet, salty, or fatty foods that trigger brain responses akin to those who are addicted to drugs or alcohol.

It also presents a janitorial concern do the the stains it leaves on children's fingers.

I had to laugh at the company's reponse, which seems to be "Well, ok so it's like a drug. But we don't market towards kids under 12!"

I'm also not suprised about the schools baning stuff they don't like. Hell, I'm the entire reason that kids in the middle school I went to can't wear kimonos anymore.

Why, back in my day, if I had any trouble with a bully, I'd just climb up the nearest tree, because I was small and nimble and they were fat and not very bright. I could spend an entire afternoon up there, cowering like a man.

It's not that intresting... It's more or less that I was a gamer in middle school after the Columbine shootings and was going through a 'goth' phase. The teachers were scared of me or some shit and decided to ban me from playing video games at home (like they could make that happen) or wearing black. So I went to school in a kimono a couple times to be all rebely cool and the next year there was a dress code law against clothing from other cultures.

Really, the more intresting bits are when the school sent home letters to my parents telling them that I was playing video games at home, and if it kept up the school would have to take action.

Palatable: pleasing to the sense of taste.
