You know what I find funny is that out of everything that could have been poked at. The shaky G1ish plot. The pacing going to hell about 2/3 of the way in. The chronic under use of Sideswipe, RC and Jolt. The disappointingly short final fight and the fact nothing other than the matrix was actually explained like Alice or Soundwave. Each of which could be easiliy picked out. (And yes I still stand by my statement thati loved this movie)

Hey, I enjoyed the movie (well, okay, I enjoyed making snide comments about the movie with my brother, but it was a fun evening out). I just jumped in about the racism thing because I couldn't understand why Psy-4 was so adamant that there ABSOLUTELY WAS NOT ANY in this movie >:O

I saw the film today. The trailer for Avatar the Last Air Bender fucked up the theater's surround sound so we all had to go to another screening room. Funny thing is, since the sound effects, BG music and Optimus Prime's voice were still working, no one noticed anything was really wrong since the first fifteen minutes or so was all action scenes. Though, when Optimus said "Any last words?" and the 'bot didn't seem to have anything to say, but Optimus answered his silence with "Not today", I thought something was up. Then the part with Sam and his parents came up and there was no dialogue. Also, a pair of idiots thought this would be a great film to bring a toddler to.
Otherwise, it was a pretty cool film, though I missed Optimus' big battle with the Fallen near the end. Guess I blinked. I liked what they did with Sam's parents. It showed that for all their goofiness, they really do love their son.
On the topic of the "racism", I'm reminded of a cartoon I saw online about the time The Phantom Menace came out. (I can't remember who did it.) The cartoonist drew himself and Yoda standing outside a movie theater showing TPM. the cartoonist said "Racial stereotypes? What will I find in there?" Yoda replied "Only what you take with you."

The problem with "Racism (or sexism, or homophobia, or transphobia, or ableism, or ageism) is in the eye of the beholder" is that it removes all responsibility from the person creating a racist image, or propagating a racist stereotype. Under this system, people could bring back minstrel shows and rebuff any complaints by claiming that people complaining about the blatant, offensive racism are the real racists. Meanwhile a section of society gets the impression that black people really are like that, or has their existing prejudices and preconceptions reinforced, and treat them accordingly.

It's not "being ahead of the curve on social relations", it's being a hundred years behind, repackaging a nineteenth century mindset in disgusting apologism and so-called "edgyness".
