This seems to be pretty big news lately, a woman threw a cat in the bin. It's owner then posted the CCTV footage on Youtube and the woman was later identified. Here's the source [2].

A woman who enraged animal lovers across the world by dumping a cat in a wheelie bin said today she 'thought it would be funny'.
And her mother claims she's a 'cat-lover'. Here's the video, with over 1 million views as of now:
Update: It was 4chan who revealed who she is

Dude, not funny. If that's a cat lover, I'd hate to see a cat hater.

Oh right - her.
I don't condone what she did. But I also don't condone the people who threatened her life because of it (the police had to come round and talk to her about protecting herself, and at least one Facebook page called for her death).
Fine her or slap her in irons. But that's as far as it should go.

Bale, for her part, is apologetic, but still a little mystified to have become the target of so much anger. "I did it as a joke because I thought it would be funny. I never thought it would be trapped; I expected it to wriggle out," she told the Daily Mail.
Uhm, what? Yeah, I have two cats and both of them are very industrious when they want to be, but getting out of a garbage bin like that? Impossible for the poor felines. She might not be the evil that is Cherry what's-her-name (who threw her roommate's cat into the stove and turned it on), but she is definitely stupid as hell if that is what she honestly believed.

Come on, the only just punishment would be to make her live in a wheelie bin.

I certainly don't agree with putting cats in bins.
But all this hate she's getting for one stupid joke pulled on impulse? That's not funny. Threatening her life? Mocking her net-wide?
Even the cat's owner doesn't condone the threats the woman's been getting.
It's a matter for the police, or the RSPCA. The way people are taking things into their own hands is just WAY too much. All she did was put a cat in a bin. There are people who do much worse things to animals and nobody sends them death threats. What about the people in America who keep big cats illiegally and then neglect them? They don't get this much hate.

I'm still trying to figure out what sort of person would put a cat in a dumpster and close the lid as 'a joke.' I'm thinking one who isn't too bright, and not aware that cats don't have superhuman strength.

Yeah.
I was gonna ask if you were serious, too.
Man, that makes the psychopathic redneck kids in Gummo look like paragons of humane animal-lovers. Well, not all of them, I guess, maybe just the ones who restricted themselves to shooting and/or drowning stray cats.

I wouldn't be surprised if 20 years later he gets busted for doing the same to 10 women. Or men.

Fortunately for this woman, Anonymous couldn't deliver a pizza anymore. Seriously, using Facebook? /b/, I am disappoint.

They're bins with wheels on the bottom. Seems like a sensible name to me. They're also 240 litres on average, so good luck picking that up and taking it out.

I've been out of civilisation for the last few days, and this was literally the only piece of News From The Outside World that I heard.
Yes, it was mean to the cat. But death threats? Really? It's a fucking cat. If she'd have put a teenager in that wheelie bin, the tabloids would be loving her.
Fucking August. There's never any proper news.

What if it was trash day? The cat could have been crushed to death or incinerated. I expect that's why most people are up in arms about it.

I must admit that I was pretty happy when I found out 4chan was the one to reveal her. I knew harassing phone calls and pizza deliveries would be made.

I just don't get why she would do something like this. Okay, she sees the cat, she's petting the cat, that's nice. Then all of a sudden, dump! And she shuts the lid. Unless this is the Cat Who Walks Through Walls, poor cat is stuck. Nice going, dumbass.

There are more important things to worry about than cats.
Not that this is a good thing, but it's not like she grabbed a cat and slowly basted it over an open fire.
But we got to stop putting all our effort into worrying about pets, and start worrying about people.

Also, it is apparently impossible to have compassion for animals and people at the same time, or be outraged about animal cruelty when THERE ARE PEOPLE STARVING IN THE WORLD OMG!
No, animals are not as important as human beings (sorry, PeTArds). But this casual little bit of cruelty is still rather assholish even if that lady claims ignorance; the cat, as already pointed out, would have had a very hard time escaping the bin on its own before starving or ending up in a trash compactor (neither of which are particularly nice deaths).
The death threats are definitely overblown and I'm not one for that, myself, but aside from that, five minutes of net-wide mockery are well-deserved IMO.

To add to this, light animal cruelty is simply not newsworthy. If the cat had died, maybe, just maybe, it would warrant a few inches in the corner of a page in a tabloid. Otherwise, let's just get back to reporting actual, proper news, eh?

You do realize that if the cat's owner had not installed a security camera, the cat would have died, right? I guess throwing a baby into a trash bin would also count as "light" child abuse as well.

In this case the owner heard the cat meowing and checked out the footage afterwards. If it had been trash day then the cat would have gone in the truck anyway.

That changes everything how?
What part of "throwing helpless animals in the trash is an terrible thing to do" do you people not understand?
