| A blog entry detailing the story The original source quoted by the blog (Facebook note, needs login) The Facebook note was posted by members of this organization (sadly, they don't seem to keep track of all their litigations on their own website, which is why this post is so roundabout). - Quote :
- The above individual was taken in by her life partner on July 18th, while coughing up a large volume of blood. The intake personnel of the emergency center were shown her Indiana state ID which had her Female name and Female marker in clear print, despite this, they still entered her into their system as a Male. The staff then proceeded to ridicule her, while loudly referring to her as "IT". Her life partner was asked by individual staff members with raised voices, if she was a "He-She".
Okay, so this woman is coughing up blood and those assclowns decide to make fun of her gender instead of, y'know, helping her. Methinks some people need to lose their medical licenses immediately, because if neglect and psychological cruelty do not violate the hippocratic oath, I don't know what does. - Quote :
- The patient was then quizzed about her length of time as a "Transvestite" when she clearly identified herself as a Transgender Female prior to that.
Transvestitism =/= transgenderism, you ignorant fucktards. Furthermore: How exactly does this have anything to do with her LUNGS and the BLOOD THAT IS COMING FROM THEM again? - Quote :
- The patient is suspected to have an inactive or active tumor within her lungs that may be the cause of mass bleeding and oral expulsion of it; Yet, according to the patient, Ball Memorial has refused to provide treatment of her with the accompanying statement to the effect of: "we do not know how to treat someone like her".
Because lungs have so much to do with your gender expression, chromosomal status or the configuration of your genitalia, right? Somehow, when you transition, all of your organs get replaced with exotic materials that small-minded assholes regular doctors can't work on. Or maybe they worry that they might get infected with trans cooties or something, your guess is as good as mine. Sadly, this kind of thing is still very common, and it's fucking disgusting that patients are being turned away for not conforming to the hospital staff's narrow world view.

| Well, what do you suggest? That those queers be treated the same as normal people? | |

| Hey now, coughing up blood isn't that bad! Hell, a family member just went to the ER and was given nice little pills and told to come back in a couple days if it kept up. | |

| I take it there was no ridicule or public humiliation involved. | |

| Isn't this sort of thing grounds for a malpractice suit? Because I'm pretty sure I've heard of doctors getting sued over less. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] | |

| Oh, the organization linked above is currently getting ready to start legal procedures against BMH. This is what it says in the Facebook note (for those unable to access it): - Quote :
- *Ball Memorial has 72 hours to respond to our inquires and complaint on
the patient's behalf. We will also send a notice about this situation to Amnesty International-USA, as a human rights violation.
*The Gender Identity Empowerment Coalition will also publicize the Transphobic and humiliating mistreatment of the patient and her family, globally disseminating this information to the media.
The Gender Identity Empowerment Coalition (GIEC) and its Legal Resources Section along with allied legal entities, will be preparing to initiate legal action against Ball Memorial and individually, against each staff member involved with the incident(s) of mistreatment if:
1) Education of the emergency room staff fails. 2) Ball Memorial Hospital still refuses to treat her or does not properly refer her to another care facility or program with a measure of quality health care. 3) If advocacy efforts are or civil outreach is ignored or not taken seriously by Ball Memorial Hospital.
Laura Jordan, Attorney At Law Gender Identity Empowerment Coalition (GIEC) [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] I personally hope she sues their pants off, especially since rednecks like the ones in this fine town are highly unlikely to learn anything from this.

| And that the people involved in this are punished properly instead of it all coming out of the hospital's pocket. The place may have employed assholes and never checked that any 'sensitivity' training got through said assholes' skulls, but there are still other patients that need looking after. | |
