| Hey, feral dogs are no laughing matter. We had trouble with a pack of dogs that had gone feral years ago attacking people and animals...I think in the end they were all rounded up and put to sleep. It's a sobering reminder that you can't just leave pets in the wild when you don't want them anymore, which happens with distressing frequency in rural areas.

| Where I grew up, there was a pack of feral dogs down the road. They killed chickens, went after people's newborn calves, and school children before they were put down. They were all small dogs, but they could have killed a kid.
Silly as it might seem to fear them, remember beagles are hunting dogs.

| Hey, only last year we had three cases of kids as old as 10 killed and eaten by stray dogs. Eaten as in, it took dental records to identify the body. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]In all matters, strays are wild animals and whatever a pack of beagles may lack in size (not that they are chihuahuas anyway, they're hunting dogs and as such they pack a lot of punch when compared to a mutt of the same size), it compensates in quantity. It sucks that they were abandoned and all, but they do represent an actual danger to pets, cattle and people. The prevalence of beagles in the pack also makes me suspect they were all released from the same source. There are claims that beagles are the preferred type of dogs for animal testing: make of that what you will. BTW shouldn't this be in the News? | |

Italy. Here's an article in English: link Those kids should've ponied up on their "protection" payments. But that's what you get when you deal with the dog Mafia.

In the neighborhood I used to live in, we did have a pack of chihuahuas that would roam the neighborhood and terrorize folks. I mean, they could be outrun and all, but it was still more than a little freaky to see a half dozen chihuahuas charging down the sidewalks. So yeah, a pack of what are, essentially, hunting dogs would definitely make me worried.

| There is a trio of dogs in my neighborhood that have been chasing kids and killing cats lately. Animal control refuses to do anything. One dog, by the way, is a Doberman, the second is a small black mutt, and the third is a Chihuahua. It's gotten so my cat won't go out front anymore. I saw them chasing a woman with a stroller this morning as I was leaving for work and swerved at the dogs to distract them. It was really tempting to hit them, but I didn't want to traumatize the little kid walking next to the woman. | |

Pretty accurate - some of those dogs might be escapees from the illegal dogfighting circuit, and you know who owns and controls the business.

Wait just a second here. Maybe someone should enlighten me as to what exactly it is that Animal Control actually does if not deal with menacing animals.

Step 1: Find a gun. Step 2: Find bullets to go with gun. Step 3: ???? Step 4: PROFIT! Oh wait, you're a liberal weeping vagina, you don't believe in guns.

Chihuahuas and other small dogs were extremely popular in that neighborhood--I can only think of a couple of families besides ours that had exclusively large or substantial breeds (German Shepherds, bulldogs, Labs)--and a lot of the owners weren't picky about hole-free fences. - Aggie wrote:

If it's like it is in my county, they menace pet owners. Seriously, this county's animal control is a hub of stupidity. My last interaction with them ran something like this, after our tags bill didn't show up as previously promised: Clerk: (after ten minutes of arguing over the bill's whereabouts) "It's not our job to remind you when your dogs' tags come due, even if we did previously promise to send a renewal bill to the correct address this time. Now pay us twice what we previously stated the fee was, or we're going to take your dogs." Me: *cue swearing fit* Let me speak to your manager. Manager: "I don't know what the clerk told you, but she's correct, and you have to do what she says. Pay the bill you haven't gotten yet." Me: *hangs up, throws phone* Yeah. Not exactly my favorite government entity. I enjoy jury duty more than dealing with Animal Control, and that's saying something.
