Something Weird Happened to Me Today

To be fair, depositing checks into the bank can be a pain in the ass. If you wait in line at the teller it can take upwards of 30 minutes or more if there's a line. If you deposit it into the ATM it takes up to 5 business days to clear (last time I had to do that it took 11 days to actually go through).

It really is an inconvenience if you're a busy person.

What bank are you going to? It takes Mikey MAYBE 10 minutes, and he's an idiot.

Though their hours are total bullshit. I don't know which tard thought that opening an hour after everyone else is at work and closing an hour before anyone gets OFF of work, and shutting down the entire region if a teller's dog dies would be acceptable customer service, but that person is the cause of all that is bad and unpleasant in the world.

Is Aggie in the UK? Because that sounds about right. They must not have online banking or anything, because when you walk into a bank -any bank- there's never less than five people in line; sometimes twenty; a check takes forever to process, three weeks to actually make it to your account, and then there's a $50 fee because it's from another country.

Although to be fair, checks are incredibly archaic and a lot of countries have done away with them, so I'm not exactly proposing that the UK should improve their check processing process.

Wait, mobile check deposits aren't a thing in Europe?  All I do is take a picture of the front and back of my checks and they're in my account the next day.  I don't even have to physically go to the bank. Depositing a check in person takes a little more time, but they're still in my account the next business day (or day after next if after 4:00, because banking rules are really arbitrary, but still).

Surely you aren't implying that the British are out of date, slow, and generally bad at everything they do. It's bad form to lob factual statements as if they're insults.

Checks were done away with years ago. I've never heard of a mobile check deposit. Between debit cards and online banking, there is zero need for it.

My point was only that my insurance company created work for me for no actual reason I can determine, not that the amount of work was world ending (although incidentally the time it takes to deposit may be a non-issue but for people like me who work bank hours getting to the bank when it is open is actually kind of a huge pain in the ass).  If it were I would have posted in the something bad thread, obvs :p

Also they withdrew the money directly from my account and then issued me a check instead of depositing it directly back into my account? The fuck kinda system is that? All of this talk of checks just reminded me why this sort of thing is so weird to me in the first place; I personally never use the damn things because they are archaic and bothersome, but for some reason every company I deal with sends me checks for refunds? Like, join the 21st century guiz.

I feel guilty as your insurance agent signing you up with Safeco. Not that I think they're a bad company, but because this happened to you. Lol!

I have finally finished the written portion of my doctoral exams. This sucked. It was on par with some of the worst experiences of my life, and that's coming from someone who's been through cancer twice. I'm just glad this part's over; now I have a couple of weeks before I get to spend three hours being grilled about every damn mistake I made. It's weird because everyone else has talked about how exhilarating it is to be done, but all I feel is blank. Totally and completely blank. Hell, my research partner was positively euphoric when he finished.

But maybe that's the exhaustion talking.

My boss, who is very much "Work is work, not socialising" and rarely divulges anything about his family, told me they'd got a new dog. He even told me how and where they got her, how she was getting along with the dog they already had, and which member of the family she's adopted as her master.

Today I received a letter from a 5th Grader. That is not the weird part, since part of my job is to answer letters from sprogs who are doing social studies projects. Naw, the weird part was her name. Arwen. >_O I hope I move to a new position relatively quickly. I'm gonna puke if I get one from a Renismee.

I was working today and I was approached by a man and three kids (I assume one to be his own and the rest their friends) and he asks me if someone can shake my hand. I agree, and they put heck off, "Shake hands with someone with a beard" and a girl comes over and I take her hand and we shake and they take a picture of it. They get the picture and walk off to do whatever else.

I just stood there a few minutes not fully sure what just happened.

Was making a delivery to a customer, but had to take the long way there because I had heard on the radio that there was a structure fire directly on the route that I would normally take to get there. Get to the customer and he's not there. So I call his cell and he says he's only a few minutes away and will come back. Turns out he way going to the exact intersection where the fire was that I avoided on the way to his place. Doo doo do doo...
