As long as there's new movies coming out, this craze is still going to have legs. It'll be staggering drunkenly onwards, a zombie of a franchise, with more and more level-headed fan-flesh peeling away from the corpse until only the rotting skeleton of die-hard Pattinson-worshipping lunatics remains. (Ow! I think I just strained my metaphor!) Suffice it to say, we won't be free of it at least until the final movie comes out. Unless SMeyer decides to release Midnight Sun.

Regarding the news item, I'm surprised that I'm surprised. There have been insane, frothing fans before now; the Internet just gives them new ways to harass people. I doubt Pattinson could control this mob, and judging from his interviews, I find myself doubting he wants anything more to do with them . . . unless he decides to take over the world, in which case, God help us all.

^Dammit, they are totally copying Harry Potter. Deathly Hallows will be two movies, so now Breaking Dawn will be two movies.

And how can you even get one movie from that crap, let alone two? I'll go see it if they have the birth scene, though. I want to see how they'll do it.

This. Obsessive fans are some of the biggest pains-in-the-ass you'll ever run across. Twilight has a lot of them right now, but they exist in other fandoms, too. I've been reading and writing in the Titanic fandom for a number of years, and there is one fan out there who is obsessed with the character Fabrizio di Rossi to the point that she has harassed fanfic site owners until they took their sites down because they happened to have a story on the site that she didn't approve of. She tried that with me, but I'm one of those people who can't take a hint, so I just added more stuff that she hated to my site. She kept e-mailing me (with a new e-mail every week, so I had to keep blocking them) until I wrote a phony cease-and-desist letter and "forwarded" it to her from my "lawyer" (actually a pseudonym of mine), threatening legal action if she contacted me again. I haven't heard from the little snot since.

To understand the obsessiveness of hardcore Twilight fans, take the crazy Titanic fantwit and multiply her by a few thousand, then apply the number to a currently very popular fandom. Now back away slowly and try not to scream, and maybe you'll live to tell about it.
