So just recently I started playing another Dark Souls game and I couldn't help but remember that I love it to pieces and that it gives me the video game equivalent of the kind of incredible orgasm that I assume folks into S&M have. The game is functionally an action-RPG with all of your swords and spears and axes going into all of your zombies and slimes and trolls. Past that, it is the deepest, most engrossing game I've ever played, and I hate using the word "deep" to describe gameplay. All of the rumors you may have heard about its difficulty are true, but provided you are willing to meet with the game on its own terms you'll find it to be extremely well balanced.
Here's some links to some stuff:
Here's a podcast done by some Something Awful people I think where they break down the game area by area and talk about it at absurd length, all of which I am devouring as quickly as possible. Pretty dry, but with the assumption of podcast material not having the same kind of hurdles to jump over as TV/radio/whatever it's pretty good. It's designed to be something to listen to after you beat the areas they're talking about.
Here's a wiki for the game that you have no obligation to feel guilty about using. I personally like the lore in the game and just generally enjoy being surprised by set pieces and plot twists, but there's an absurd amount of information about gameplay and the world you're in that isn't immediately apparent at best, and hidden in some nonspecific item's description at worst.
I'm running through the Depths with a battleaxe melee character right now, having a real ass of a time being a fat load and getting used to fighting patiently instead of running around like an idiot backstabbing anything stupid enough to look away. Anyone else on here play this game and possess a burning desire to talk about it at length?
I'm not experienced at starting threads so I don't know if this is complete enough! Tell me if I should shove more info in here or something! Fill out your comment card before leaving!
