Well, he went to the nurse. Not the same thing. To draw a comparison, I'm a vet tech. I can give shots, draw blood, and other routine appointments without a vet present. But I cannot prescribe medications, give diagnoses, etc.

Also, prison medical treatment is about as dependable and state-of-the-art as what you would get from a battlefield medic in a firefight. In fact, the medics are probably better. Unless you are in the process of dying, you get to wait your turn, and that could very well be a while.

Ahh, that makes more sense. In that case, though, why is he suing the nurse, as presumably the nurse couldn't do anything to fix the problem?

This side-effect is known as 'priapism' if my memory serves me correctly. Sometimes, the only way to treat it is to puncture your dick to let out some blood :unskilled78:

ZoZo, I'd presume that the nurse's functions include triage, deciding who needs to see the doctor and who doesn't. When this guy finally saw her after fourteen hours, she sent him back to his cell, effectively preventing him seeking further treatment at that time.

This isn't someone who went to jail for being caught with pot too often. It's someone who repeatedly inflicted pain and trouble on other people.

Yeah I think he should have got medical attention. I am, however, completely lacking in the empathy department.

I don't think the prison system (in general, anyway) deliberately tries to screw them over in terms of medical care. But, prison being what it is, not a lot of medical professionals are lining up to work there. And the ones that do work in prisons work in understaffed wards where too many inmates are kept in not enough space. When you throw in fights amongst inmates and whatever genuine psychotics that these doctors/nurses may be unfortunate enough to encounter, it starts making uncontrollable erections fall (har-dee-har) pretty far down on the triage list. It's not that prisoners aren't supposed to get medical care equal to everyone else (although, I'm sure there are people who aren't especially bothered that they don't). It's that the system to care for them is overworked, understaffed, and in much higher demand than it can meet.

My mom was a nurse at a prison and she was always coming home to complain about how the people in them have nothing better to do then make things up. After a while the nurses get jaded and tend to ignore the people who whine about everything.

In that case, I can kind of see how she might have just rolled her eyes and sent him back to his cell. When you've got a bunch of less than savory characters constantly making things up because, A.) they're bored, B.) they're assholes, and C.) you're the only thing with ovaries they've seen in years, and one of them comes in with dick in hand moaning about how his erection just won't go away... Yeeaah, I can see how that might've come off the wrong way.
