Exaggeration, yes, but not to anything like the extent you're suggesting.

The mining industry never recovered from the damage she did to it. Neither has manufacturing.

She grossly underfunded the railways. Her policies resulted in a massive shortfall in the number of houses being built. Homelessness sky rocketed. It was also her policies that led to the British economy being so heavily dependant on financial institutions.

Admittedly, many of the problems were exacerbated by Thatcher's successors and they created new ones, but she is still responsible for the creation of many of the problems that are currently really hurting the UK.

Pretty much. I'm too lazy and sick to write a big effort post about it all but here's a small checklist:

- Ruined manufacturing infrastructure throughout the UK, forcing millions into unemployment, with literally no support policies to help those affected into new careers. Too poor to afford training in other areas of employment? Fuck you.

Thatcher also set out policies that forbid councils to use the money generated by these sales into creating new houses, thus making the process of buying your first home to be so fucking hard in recent years. You can't buy a fucking house if it doesn't exist or is being priced out of the market. Also, this whole home-buying thing kickstarted that very smug "I'm a common but decent British person and if everyone acted like me then things would be alright" mentality that now makes you want to kick fuck out of some of the twats you see on message boards who boast about how English, decent, and down to earth they are - even though they're secretly hateful and petty. See also: "common-sense", the Daily Mail, Harley, Somath, etc.

- Crippled the unions. I know some ~*~*~AMERICANS~*~*~ itt just popped a big fat erection over those three words and are now building a Thatcher shrine in their wardrobe. Fuck you.

- Caused two seperate recessions and heightened inflation to an obscene amount and made things way more expensive for everybody, whilst only providing economic opportunities for a minority of people. VAT (basically the tax that is applied to things you buy) rose from 8% to 17.5% during her time in government. Also gave the majority of tax breaks to millionares and business owners, because seriously guys fuck poor people.

- Supported Apartheid and called Nelson Mandela a terrorist

- Supported the Chilean and Cambodian leaders Pinochet and Pol Pot

This is all I can think of from the top of my head, but there's an infinitely larger amount of shit she did to this country and many more countries across the world. Also shut up Mikey go WOOGA, go jerk off to Ebert's obituary for the eighth time.

I got more and better understanding of the situation from Anon and Just Chipper's posts than I would have trying to parse Wikipedia's info dumping. You can get the raw facts and still not understand why they piss so many people off. I imagine many of our non-American friends were similarly baffled by the heated reaction to Reagan's death.

She forced impopular and extreme measures through without being open to negotiation at all. The Iron Lady. Whether you side with her views or not, it's not really in the spirit of democracy to completely refuse to bargain.

His post claimed that she kill manufacturing, mining, and unions. I doubt supporting Pol Pot caused that.

Furthermore, he doesn't explain how she "inspired people." If you asked me why Obama is killing America, I could write upwards of 500 words just on how Obamacare is doing it.

I'd at least mention the specific legislation and let you figure out the rest. Chipper hasn't even done that, he hasn't even given generals on exactly how she accomplished this. All he's providing is liberal hysteria.
