Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. Though I'd like to call special attention to: Feminine Wiles Protection Mating Day Bloodlust A Place of Their Own Christmas Traditions Always Check the Expiry Date Slaying in a Winter Wonderland (which is actually yuri, but still) The Boy Next Door The Room of Requirements Line by Line

| Xtasis, Shirohane's second-worst story after For Your Eyes Only.
Or, really, any of Shirohane's stories.

| Anyone who snarks the following fics has my undying gratitude:
A Second Chance At Love and its sequel, Second Chance or No Chance (the sequel is actually the worse of the two)
Heck, any of MScott7565's stuff (yes, the author of the aforementioned fics sadly has more- Sues and a sense of "did you even watch the shows you desecrate write about" abound, and there's even a real-person fic disguised as a fanfic in there)

| Does this mean that "The Other Boleyn Girl" is Henry VIII fanfiction? | |

| ^Actually that would be historical fiction. Real-person fiction applies to people who are living, generally celebrities or entertainers, sometimes athletes, artists, politicians, etc. People who have developed fan followings during their lifetime are the subject of fanfiction. When they've been dead for a couple centuries or more it's generally considered historical fiction.
Although, if you were to write a story based on "The Other Boleyn Girl," that would be fanfiction because your source is someone else's creative work, as opposed to doing your own research and coming up with your own story. (Was there even research involved in "The Other Boleyn Girl"? I don't even know.)

Yes, but is a fic about Seth McFarlane and a bunch of Sues a "Family Guy" fanfic? This was one of the other fics by the author BAU Medic suggested, though I don't know why [s]he didn't suggest that one him/herself.

This was one of the other fics by the author BAU Medic suggested, though I don't know why [s]he didn't suggest that one him/herself. That's not what BAU Medic #7 said. The fic is miscategorized, but that doesn't mean it's not fanfiction. And if your complaint is that real-person fic isn't allowed on FF.net, well, that's like saying smoking pot at a Grateful Dead concert isn't allowed, so....

This was one of the other fics by the author BAU Medic suggested, though I don't know why [s]he didn't suggest that one him/herself. I didn't suggest it because I in fact reported it- Fanfiction.net hasn't allowed real-person fiction for years now. Now, one of the other fics I singled out features a "Dr. Matthew" and "Dr. Gray-Gubler", but Matthew Gray Gubler himself makes no appearance, thus I can't really report that one. ETA: Lest anyone think my problem is solely the involvement of real people in fics, it was the OOC-ness of pretty much all the canon characters and the abundance of Sues that prompted me to bring up those fics I specifically suggested before deciding to suggest anything by that author.

I think that Philippa Gregory did do research, because it's not that inaccurate....I mean, compared to The Tudors.

| Well, Raise Your Glass is gone, but the author apparently intends to rewrite it in a 70-chapter form. Sounds promising.
In the meantime, there's The Serpant by The Unholy Trio. I found it via TvTropes' fic recommendations, where people are complaining about the same OOCness I found in RYG.
I didn't see it myself, but only because the prose is so boring I gave up completely.

| Is there a reason there are so many Criminal Minds fans posting in this thread? Is the fandom's collective quality especially bad, or does it just attract a lot of snippy/lazy people?
Merely an observation...

| I just found a real stinker of a shitfic at the Pit. A terrible Axis Hetalia Powers rapefic where Prussia rapes Italy. Aside from the rape thing which could trigger folks it has poor spelling and grammar that would make an English teacher weep,OOCness galore, and just terrible terrible storytelling! Here's the link if anyone cares to spork this thing:
