| What about the token (adjective) (animal name) of any given forum? We have Rabid Badger here, and I seem to recall a Rabid Penguin or Crazy Penguin or something from my last forum, and some other name in that format from the forum before that. There's one in every crowd.
I think the best username I've ever seen is "dustfungus". It's got your dust, and it's got your fungus. What's not to love?

A quick search reveals nothing, but it's not like a bothered pulling out the big guns with my searching tactics. It would actually be a little fiddly to study as it would involve some kind of analysis or coding of the username. How would one categorise them? "names with numbers" "names with random caps" "usual first names", etc? A dichotomy between "moronic" and "non-moronic"? The more I think about it, the more I realise what a tricky little bit of research this is and how much I want to do it now.

| I used to know someone on another forum who changed accounts a few times; although he effectively kept the same name, the name evolved. First came, 'I am not Dr. Jones' (Dr. Jones was another member of the forum). Then came 'I am not...' with the sig line, 'It's a different I am not... every day'. Then came 'IAN', which he soon dropped because it seemed that everybody kept shouting at him and calling him Ian. Finally came 'not...' What d'you all think? Moronic or non-moronic? | |

What d'you all think? Moronic or non-moronic? Moronic for constantly changing it. Poser.

I think the best username I've ever seen is "dustfungus". It's got your dust, and it's got your fungus. What's not to love? Is it bad that I thought 'I'm one of those!' then I remembered that a Cactus is not an animal. You'd think that when you were Spooky Cactus for five years of your life you'd remember what kingdom your namesake was from... I'm also known as London Wolf, so I guess that would fit. My personal worst username (in the sense that it was actually my username when I was 11) was Veetwo2. Make of that what you will. I seem to remember it was something to do with a fanon Pokemon that was a genetically engineered super version of an Eevee or something. So like a mutant cat rabbit thing. And then, for added shame, somebody has taken that name and you have to add a letter to it. Any username with Dark, Shadow, Night etc in it is usually a bad sign.

Oh god, I remember when I used to call myself Night in a chatroom and thought this was just so awesome. Remembering how stupid I was back then makes me miss my childhood a lot less.

If it makes you feel better, when I was twelve I used to go into chatrooms with the name DarkPrincess666. I thought it was superbly clever.

| I got y'all beat - my first internet usename was Metallicafangirl. I'm not shitting you. Oh, the joys of being twelve and silly...
I dislike usernames that I can't pronounce for the life of me. Grumbles is forgiven, because it's easy to give her a nickname, but [random mass of consonants] just looks silly most of the time.
And the DarkPrincessBloodyTears666-es get a bit hard to keep track of after a while; they tend to blur together as there are way too fucking many of them.

| I remember in an old version of this thread some woman went on on a rant about numbers in username, and claimed the worst example she ever saw was someone calling themself "Catch22" because "There wasn't even any other Catch on the forum" and then apologising when someone linked to the book. | |

| You probably think my name is lame and weaboo-ish, I did want to use Blackcat originally, but since there's a million people already using that as their username I decided to go with japanese. Now that I think about it I probably should have used some other language, but hey, I was 18 at the time and anime is big in my crowd. I also like to use as little usernames as possible, it's easier to remember. | |

Or Demon. Or Wolf. Or 666. Any time you play Counter-Strike (well, Call of Duty these days) and run into somebody named DarkSniperWolfShadowDemon you know it's a 12 year old who's going to spend the next ten minutes screaming about what a faggot you are for killing him in Last Stand.

| ...My name has always had something to do with rabbits. On Neopets, the username is delirium_rabbit (Brief obsession with the Endless + liking the way the word 'delirium' sounds), and its actually been Lapin on pretty much everything else. I just like the word. It was even Sly Lapin once, as a sort of half joke about the rabbit being sly instead of the fox. Really wasn't that funny of a joke. I was 18. I thought I was having one of my brief moments of cleverness. | |

| Certain ages make certain people distance themselves more quickly from them than others. Mine was fourteen. When I was fifteen, I wanted to douse my fourteen-year-old self in boiling tar.
I also had an Endless obsession (where the "Del" in my name comes from), but there's nothing wrong with that.

You make it sound like that was a long time ago. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] The two years have taught me the difference between my moments of cleverness and my moments of stupidity. Turns out that for me, they're not all that different. A lot of both kinds ended in fire or pain. (I bet if I stick a hot needle in this bug bite it'll make it stop itching)

| My default username for most forums is "Vaiyt", the name of a character I invented as a child. Short and almost unique (my Google searches fall either on myself or some obscure Turkish sites).
"Exodia's Right Leg" comes from me asking my YGO-savvy friends if it was possible to attack an opponent with parts of the Forbidden One set of cards.

| I know these twins on DeviantART that BOTH have usernames like xXx[username]xXx, and then you look at their friends' list and it looks like a kinky porn ad vomited on it. "XxXxXPainfulAllureXxXxXx".
DraceDragon7, SaiyanInu7, and Ryukirose3407 were my first fanfiction, AIM, and DeviantART names. Obviously, I like the number seven. However, I'm ignoring the 34, since that's in reference to my dead brother, so yeah. As the years went on, I had too much fun making usernames. It was like Pringles; once I started, I couldn't stop. Some of the AIM names I remember, in no particular order, were: Pooferlierium, DietPoof, SailorCandi12345 (trolling one that got a lot of attention in chatrooms), CrazyRoseThorn, BumblingBrood, FallibleThorn, Steelfangster13 (InuYasha reference, sadly, and I still use this one most), NirvaniaGrey, ChimmiChangaChic, MercyKillMeNow, MewingSiren (another trolling one), and GrinningGrimReap.
The only random username I'm half amused with is Eruden Ki. Eruden came from mashing around and cutting up 'endurance'. Later I learned about the word 'erudite'.
