AFF's admins hate their precious babies being snarked

Got this link off a friend, kinda makes me glad I don't have fanfiction on AFF anymore, with lunatics like this running te asylum:

Oh no! Authors getting negative reviews for yuks! Topless Robot's weekly fanfiction friday is where I go for reviews of bad fanfics these days, and I think it's a great service, but this admin disagrees - fair enough, but then:

But let's get back to the basic point - his entire site is there only to create strife and discord. He has navigated AFF with the specific intent of finding and flaming authors whose material he doesn't like based on the warnings they put on it. He wants to express his opinion, fine. But he's come to a site where he knows he will find material he objects to solely for the purpose of objecting to it. I'm not okay with that. And I'm really not okay with him creating an account, agreeing to the TOS here that says he won't troll, and doing it anyway just because he feels like he "should" because he thinks he has some moral high ground.

For the sake of the hard of thinking amongst you, I'd best try and explain why this pompous horsehit is so fucking funny:

1) Yeah, he's taking it without permission! Like how Brad Pitt didn't give his permission for that writer to pair him with Tony the Tiger!

2) Goodness me! No disclaimers? Maybe the fact that everything is in quote boxes and followed by a usually good comment about it's 'claw your eyes out' nature clues most people into the fact that, yes, he doesn't own it.

3) No age restriction? Feh, as long as their's a warning so you don't accidently click on anything about Battlefield Earth

Further down the thread a user calls them out for being retarded, earning a telling off for their attitude. Apparently, on AFF, you gotta eat that horse shit!

Edit - on the main index, the subject is shortened to 'AFF's admins hat', which would certainly be taking community crafting too far on TF2...

Wait... there are places that make you show ID for buying romance novels? I've never actually shelled out money for one (so I wouldn't know), but the idea sounds ludicrous. And, last I checked, most of the Internet doesn't make you confirm your age for offensive content. Nine times out of the ten, the "confirmation" is just a yes-or-no prompt asking if you're over a certain age. The other 10% of the time, it asks for a birth date, which the site owners have no way of knowing is correct or not. I'm not young enough that I have to put in a fake birthday for AFF, but my "signature" is always a random keyboard smash.

I used to read Anne Rice novels when I was 13 from my local library, and I never had my age questioned. Just my sexuality, obviously. But, looking at some other threads this mod seems to be kinda crazy. Heh.

Half of this stuff has been up more than five years! There's a kind of frothing mouthed insanity here... On the plus side, she's linked to all the flames she considers funny so can get in and maybe have a chukle before they're deleted for possibly hurting the previous widdle rapeficcers feelings half a decade ago...

I stopped wasting my time with AFF the day I saw your link to GAFF on the AFF forum, Knorg.

Glad to see I make something of a more decent decision.

Straight up not me! I don't even have any stories on AFF anymore (not since "The Incident"), so I wouldn't be wasting my time looking for self depreciating fanbrats and getting worked up on it!

I'd never heard of toplessrobot before, so on a whim, I searched for the Hogwarts/Giant Squid story I wrote a couple years ago on a lark. And, holy shit, it's there. I really have nothing to add to this conversation, except that I never expected a silly piece of crack!fic to make its rounds on the net like this.

Srsly, that was the most fabulous HP fanfic I've ever read, plotholes and silliness aside. Hogwarts/Squid OTP forever. I don't have anything to add either, just, hurray for lovely crackfic.

hahaha Yep, that's me. I heard about the pairing on FW and then couldn't get that story out of my head. You're welcome, internets.

I may have to pull my fics off AFF the next time I have access to a more free and clear computer (most public access block it) and kill my account. It's just...I posted there back when I was still idealistic and cared about fandom on a whole. I liked to think I was at least putting some quality smut out there.

Really though the admin drama over at AFF is incredibly stupid, not only that but c'mon...Everyone who posts there is well aware that they're doing it at the risk of their reputation as a fanfic writer. We know we're posting on the Pit of Voles. There's no illusion of the site's respectability, and until the admin stops whining about their fics getting sporked and starts clearing out the trash that site will never be respectable. There's a vast difference between freedom of expression and letting people post whatever perverse garbage that goes on in their head.

It's just precious how seriously you take it.

To tell the truth, I'm a little embarrassed that I ever started posting at AFF or was even so intense of an erotica writer. Yet I'd feel like a hypocrite because I'm still pretty secure in what was written. I guess I just wish my energy was put into stories that wasn't necessarily reliant on the reader's enjoyment of porn.
