In recent years, as the disease has evolved, medications once proven to
kill the bacteria have become less effective except one, a class of antibiotics called cephalosporins. Now some strains of gonorrhea are showing signs of being resistant to even that, Ison told those at a scientific meeting last week in Edinburgh, Scotland.

People tend to use queer for identities that don't really fit the other letters (like genderqueer people, or Kinsey scale placement other than totally gay, totally straight, or totally equal opportunity), or sometimes when they fit the basic definition of one of the other letters (say, gay) but don't feel like the definition in a broader sense fits them.

Why is it a mash up of sexual preferences AND gender identities, anyway? Those are sort of different things...

I'd guess because cis-gendered heterosexuals are considered the norm and are the overwhelming majority. Oh, and because of our nasty habit of casting anyone who deviates from that norm as...well, a deviant. Sometimes with lethal consequences.

No...no it's not. You're probably thinking of HPV, and even then it's genital skin-to-skin contact.

Still, that doesn´t explain why the LGBTQIAETCBBQ-crowd themselves is so fond of using the acronym, yeah? I mean, even when you use the binary opposition of Straight/LGBTIA&c. or Cis-Gendered/Non-cis-Gendered, you're still divvying up the whole gamut of sexual preferences between The Norm (Cis-Gendered Heterosexual) and The Other (Bad).

I'm spreading gonorrhea by not placing my unaffected body into the collective, hence a larger percentage of those having sex will be those who are affected.
