Ok, while I am all for people having to have a license to have children, that statement is sheer what-the-fuckery on a massive scale. "No, don't feed the poor, they breeeeeeeeed."

Honestly Sanford is better than that dude if you think about it, simply because sanford WON'T compare the needy to animals.

At least he didn't propose having the poor spayed or neutered as a condition of receiving aid.

That's not really the issue; the point is that an invasive, basically irreversible medical procedure was performed on her against her will.

Did she need to have more children? No, probably not, but when you get people other than a woman/a couple who wants to have kids/more kids involved, and they make decisions for that person or persons against the wishes or without the consent of the people who are actually going to be affected by it... that's not quite right, IMHO.

Regardless of how I or you or anyone else feels about this woman having more children, letting the hospital get by with this just because someone feels she didn't need more children sets a bad precedent. Doctors are not gods and they should not be allowed to just do whatever they want or feel they 'should' do, for whatever trivial reason, upon a person's helpless body, without consulting them or informing them.

Um...in the future, she might have been more financially secure (or not--even if you're financially secure, you can get downsized right out of security and onto welfare). Besides, she wanted to use contraception. If that's not being responsible, I don't know what is.

Yeah, seriously. She was getting a contraceptive device put in. She was taking steps to ensure that she wouldn't have another child before she was prepared for one. What these doctors did was way, way, WAY out of line, horrible, and quite illegal.
