| Does the US have an equivalent of CAFs? CAFs are a formal way of jumping up and down and shouting "er, hello! This family needs early intervention pls!" | |

There's CPS (Child Protective Services). Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It tends to be bogged down in red tape and underfunded. All too often, kids who aren't in danger get removed from the home while kids who are in danger get ignored, said ignoring too often being detected only when a dead or dying child finally comes to the attention of the authorities and/or the media. | |

| I just got this in my email in regards to Diane Tran: - Quote :
- Diane Tran is a 17-year-old who works two jobs to support herself and her siblings since her parents moved away -- and she was thrown in jail for a night because she was exhausted and missed school. But after a few days and more than 100,000 signatures supporting her on a petition on Change.org started by Samuel Oh, the judge in Diane's case dropped all charges against her.
